Just had another Sylvania Silverstar Ultra headlight blow out. My first set blew out at 8 months, so they gave me a free set. This set blew at 4 months. If they don't give me another free set, I'm done with them.

Anyone got good alternatives? I like how much brighter these are over stock, but I can't be replacing them all the time.

I've had the same problem with silverstar bulbs. Pretty much any pricey bulb you buy will be brighter than stock but will also burn our faster than stock. Thus the reason I do HID retros on all my vehicles. If you're interested I can do a set for your truck but it's pricey.

    Your options are;
    1) Stay with cheap bulbs
    2) HiDs
    3) Keep replacing bulbs
    4) Night vision goggles

Yup. Silverstar output is kinda nice but they don't last for shit. Sad they can't make it a quality product.

Also, retrofit with HID's are an option too. I'm still waiting for a retrofit with LED conversion one of these days... that would be badassness.

Are you talking about an LED retro in place of a projector? LED technology has come a long way but it's still leaps behind an HID built projector.

How spendy is spendy? I don't know a thing about it. I have terrible night vision and I've been waiting for my glasses to arrive for about 2 weeks now.

I prefer TL projectors. You can use whatever you'd like though. I have a set of TL projectors that are not being used if you decide you want to go through with it.

TL projectors (clear lenses included) - 205
Bulbs, ballasts, wire harness - 160
    Shrouds - 45
Shipping for the above parts to me is not included.
Labor - 300 (includes painting if requested)

You can run the price up with fancy bulbs and ballasts.

What type of bulbs and ballasts are included in that 160?

If I want to take the top plates off the OEM shocks, will I need a spring compressor?

Yes, you will. You can also install the shocks, jack up on the lower arm (enough to compress the spring), unbolt the top plate nut and lower the jacks slowly. After that install the new top plate in reverse order.

Bummer, was hoping I didn't have to. I thought doing it your method but heard it was 'unsafe'. Trip to Autozone to rent a spring compressor is what it looks like.

    Thanks.

The spring compressor is more unsafe in my eyes. I've done it this way many times and it's controlled as long as you lower the jack slowly. I use my press for aftermarket springs but for small cars and stock springs I've never had any issues doing it this way. By no means am I taking any liability if you try it. That's all on you but it is an option.

so is that ~$700 per light or total? Or are you doing different options and tossing all the information together? I feel like I'm being really dense right now.
