I don't think they are horrible but I do want to get rid of it. The bumpers I have planned will work better without it

Why can't he turn those on when he's on the road?

Red lights visible from the front will get you popped for impersonating if the cop really wants to fuck you over.

I have red domes, luckily no issues with police thus far. I could see it being a problem, but I would imagine unless the cop is sitting off to the side, the headlights would completely drown the map lights out from the front since? And would blend in with the rear third brake light looking from the back?

If your headlights are adjusted properly, the driver in front of you would be able to clearly see it.

Biggest problem would be if a cop seeing it is unavoidable... you get pulled over at night for something and the cop asks you to turn on your interior lights maybe.
When pulled over at night, I turn them on before he even gets to the door... helps to avoid getting shot when he can see in the car... haven't had a ticket since '91.

Makes sense. I'm probably going to end up changing my map lights out down the road. Red led maps don't work for jack unless its pitch black out and eyes have adjusted lol

    Ya.
Red is great because it doesn't kill your night vision, so it's really good for the dash. Computer-controlled telescopes have red displays, and astronomers use red flashlights.

But it's kinda hard to read a map when the interstate doesn't show up.

And the map lights is what I was mainly thinking of because that's what your passenger might use on the roll.

I might end up going with amber maps. Still good light output, not too bad on the eyes like white, and legal...right? lol.

As legal as rolling with the interior light on can be (not in many states, but I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for it).
White and amber are the only safe colors. Blue and red are emergency responders, and green is sometimes forestry, sometimes volunteer fire.

My 2000 PreRunner had red factory door lights, but if I recall they only came on with the door open.

Red is okay if only visible from the rear.

    Your taillights are red ;)

All of my windows are so dark you can't even tell the red lights are on, which is nice. My front windshield is tinted at 70% with a 20% strip at the top. I don't think most oncoming traffic would be able to tell either. Also, if the light was on while the truck was in park and you used the red map lights when a cop pulled you over, I doubt they'd do anything. You can have any colored lights (in most states) as long as the car isn't mobile. But, if I did get pulled over, I too roll all my windows down, put my hands either on the dash or top of the steering wheel, and I would use my white dome light, not the map lights.
