I ride honda only Now. I will never buy another yz im sorry. Juss picked up a '99 cr250 for 800$ Im thinking about making it a full rebuild bike.... Black powdercoat the frame and run new black plastics with the gold rims. Came with a bunch of oils and cleaners. Two new tires one front one back and i think it was a good deal.

My neighbor has a little ttr 90 and a kx125 (I think). I put my girlfriend on the 90 and she went up and down the road for about twenty minutes. I want to teach her to ride the 125 but I know she will have trouble with the clutch. She never got out of first gear on the 90, just putted around for a long time. She is really, really small.

I didn't know you rode dirt bikes Ruben. Looks like you roped your son into it as well-that's awesome too! It's a great family activity.

Yup, picked up the 100 to follow my son around. It was either that or a 50 but I'm too cramped on the 50's. I keep trying to take him to Metcalfs mini mx track but he's intimidated.

Just found this thread now, definitively subscribing! I had a '08 YZ250F with FMF exhaust and aftermarket suspension, I sadly had to sell it in order to help pay for my Tacoma. Hope to be back in the game this summer!

    I ride a 1980 can-am qualifier 400 and a 1979 Maico 450 .
Both excellent bikes in their day
The Can-Am has a special place in my heart though . Walks in every gear and still puts the competition to shame . Just hate the left hand kick start .

There are a couple of really nice areas at Hollister though it's a bit of a hike.
Next to the Vintage track is a small, very easy kids track. Then on Radio Ridge, there's a larger track with a cc limit. I don't know but I think it's < 80cc-lots of kids there.

Metcalf is pretty nice plus it's really easy to get to.

We've been to hollister once. It was the small track at the bottom where the park rangers are at.

Boy did he have fun in those puddles....

That's the spot. There are also some jr ranger programs at Metcalf where Mike/Match will work with the kids. Both are rangers they're are really great with people.

both are overpriced, but the DR is less overpriced. I had a 2006 DR650 for a while and loved it. Cruised the freeway at 80mph all day and could still handle some mild trails with some knoby tires. I paid $2800 for it in 2011 with 3000 miles on it.

So Im in the market for a bike. It will be my first dirt bike, but ive been riding quads since I was like 10. Ive ridden a few bikes just to narrow down what I want. I really like the 2 strokes. I rode a yz 125 and a ktm 200 xc. Originaly I wanted a yz 125 because I think it would be a good bike to start out with. But now im considering a yz 250 2 stroke with a fly wheel weight because I wont have to get a bigger bike later on. What is your guys opinion?

I say get the 125 but I think everyone should own one at some point. They really teach you how to wring a bike's neck. Plus I find it way more fun to ride a bike to it's potential than to have it kill you with a little whiskey throttle

Get a early to mid 2000's YZ125, ride it for a year or two, then sell it for what you paid for it to buy a 250.

So what would be wrong with getting the 250 right off the bat and putting a fly wheel weight on it?
Keep in mind where I live its mostly trail riding. When I rode the 200 I found that it just chugged up hills a lot easier than the 125

Honestly nothing. If you're careful and don't get carried away with the throttle you'll be fine with a 250. 250's have tons of low end power, my old KX250 with a flywheel weight was a tractor.
