has anyone used the bushing kit from East Coast Gear Supply (ECGS)???
if so did it work? i have the same problem with my tacoma and wondering if this is the fix. i dont know if i like the idea of taking out a bearing and replacing it with a bushing tho, theres a reason theres a bearing there wont the bushing heat up fast and wear fast??

The general consensus is yes, it is the "miracle-fix" by ECGS. Mine is waiting to be installed.

BTW...I'm showing 51 pages of answers in this thread regarding the bushing vs. bearing, just flip back a few pages and start reading!:D

Edit my post, mine is not lifted. I was on the freeway today going 60 and when turning right it completely vanishes, returns as soon as I'm going straight again.

Same here. I had the ECGS bushing installed in my 08 long bed last week. Instantly had a hum between 60-70 mph and if I turn slightly the noise all but disappears. 74k on the truck, been lifted for about 35k miles with Billies @ 2.5. Seems wheel bearings are somewhat common on these trucks. Weird that my wheel bearing symptoms suddenly appeared after the work was done... Any ideas on that?

Fabulous. 44K and bad bearings already. I can't see keeping this truck from reading how often this occurs.

edit, I just jacked it up, no wheel movement top to bottom or side to side.

I didn't solve my problem but, I have some tips.

    1. The ECGS tool works like a charm. Tolerance was a little too tight for my particular bearing. I had to grind some of the tool material to insert the inner piece. Rather than use an open end wrench use a Gear Wrench. If you don't have gear wrenches buy them. You run into a lot of situations where a socket wrench won't do.

    2. When putting in a new seal, I couldn't use my seal driver set. The seal has a lip that would be crushed by the flat surface of the driver. The 2" PVC suggested by others may do the same thing. I found a 2" ABS coupler at Lowe's ($0.99) that allows the lip to ride inside the coupler while, the edge of the coupler engages the solid, outer edges of the seal.

I had the bushing installed yesterday while replacing the CV. I didn't think I had vibes before, but the ride is noticeably smoother. Maybe it's me being sensitive or I was just giving any "vibe" credit to the Duratracs.

    Anyhow, it's done and I'm happy!:D

I have a 1st gen so this bushing is not applicable to me.

I spent the money on a new roller bearing + CV shaft no result.. close to $1K in total all said and done.

Now I'm gonna see this truck.. with the vibration...

Looks like are now more reports of 1st gen trucks having this issue. FJ crusier as well.. as indicated by ECGS...

Yeah, I remember you replacing the needle bearing a couple of years ago. Thought it cost you about $400 to have it done? And doesn't Chase now have a bushing for the 1st Gen? Thought I read that back in January.

Ha.. then it didn't work so I replaced the CV as well.. then the POS aftermarket CV started leaking after warranty so I had another one put in for $350..

Hmm interesting.. about the 1st gen bushing.. kinda sucks to blow all this money on the truck to fix the issue just so that I sell it for someone else to enjoy.

pretty idiotic of the toyota engineers to replace the entire diff under warranty given all the resource and knowledge they have, when ECGS figured out the root cause and came up with this simple solution..

the taco was the first ever toyota in our household and will be the last.

Guys im trying to figure out if what im getting is same vibe that you were getting before the bushing. My truck is all stock and im not sure if the needle bearing is a problem even on stock trucks or just lifted. What i feel is, as i accelerate (mostly around 2-2100rpm) i get a vibe under my feet, in the gas pedal and a vibe also in the top of the steering wheel. Does that sound like the diff bearing problem?? The dealer already tried new leafs and changed the driveshaft around but it didn't help.

    Thanks!

Yes it does get 85% better when its in 4H, and yes the dealer did have me come drive it without the rear driveshaft in it and it was still vibrating in the front. Does that sound like the bushing would be a fix? Has anyone been having problems with the bushing failing after?
