it's quite simple doing it, it's not about how the drive shaft looks it's all about the angle difference.

good thing about the yoke on the driveshaft is that it's a flat surface, perfect for a magnetic angle finder

So here's a question

What about CB drop spacers ? Aren't they going to affect both front and rear angle relationships ?

 

I've been doing it this way forever, hasn't failed me yet. I've lifted a few trucks and have had a few drag cars, all the same concept of obtaining drive line angle except on the drag cars they had solid suspension in the rear, so pinion angle was roughly 1 - 1.5 degree's since the rear barely moved.

 

yep & for me it would probably bring that 2 to 0 but it all depends on how much it drops the carrier bearing.

 

So , I have the OME CB drop , which is about 3/8" thick , I guess the thing to do would be to remove that and take the angles without it installed , no ?

 

I'd take measurements how the truck sits now first and go from there.

D29XL, I have 3 Questions...

1. I received them with most of the little rubber and plastic "Sliders" on the sides of the wraps busted or missing. Is this a big deal? I understand Deaver and Alcan dont even use these. Thoughts?

2. I've got the add a leaf installed by the vender and received them with one of the military wraps bolts removed, called vender to see why and they stated it can't be reinstalled with AAL. True? False?

3. Last question, There is an arrow on the leaf pack. Is the arrow indicating that is the forward portion during install?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

 

To go along with my questions...

 

the broken plastic pieces are no big deal. they are only there to decrease metal/metal friction. But, like you said other makers don't even use them. I wouldn't worry about it. The arrow in your picture appears to be the rear side of the spring. The bushings come installed on the front.

 

I think he means the little yellow arrow on the leaf pack, not the red arrow he drew, but yes the end with the bushings installed goes to the front, the yellow arrow on the leafs is pointing towards the front.

 

Thanks guys. Any idea about the missing bolt on the rear wrap in regards to the AAL? They actually mailed me the bolt/nut/sleave, but said it couldn't be installed with the AAL. That's what the red arrow is pointing out.

D29XL to see if theirs is off too.

 

They are called "Military Wrap: Designed to provide added safety" & there is not enough room to fully use them with the AAL.

d29xl installed , or an email to ARB USA would help

Personally , I would find it suprising that it wouldn't work with their own AAL but that may be the case

 

1) The plastic inserts are squeak management. They won't affect function.

2) All 3 can be reinstalled with the

$82 D29XL Leaf Spring

D29XL. This picture isn't ideal, but you can see I have both overload leafs in and all 3 brackets bolted. I removed all but the "tall" bracket to allow more leaf spread and rear axle travel with less stress on the leafs. You won't have to worry about that unless you get a shackle flip/shock relocation done. You will probably need the weight of the truck on the springs to gain clearance to re-install all the clamp/bracket bolts.



3) The end with the bushings pre-installed and with the military wrap on it is the front end of the spring.
