Yeah a couple, this was really wierd but def. a blessing dude, someones looking out for me maybe, it happened right in my driveway....

The irony of the whole deal is I was moving my truck into my carport .....to check my ball joints... no shit God's truth...;)

About an hour earlier I was going 70 mph down the freeway, I've known they were getting a little sloppy for about 3 weeks, especially the dr.side lower, changed them out tonite (well I gotta little to do when its light out)

Holy shit!! Glad it came apart in you drive way! I have some MOOG lowers sitting on the bench ready to go in. My OEM ones have no play after 188,000 original miles...but I will be replacing them prophylactically

Yo, thats freakin scary! How do you know when they need to be replaced, like average mileage. I just want to do something preventative so I don't total my truck or die from this crap.

jack the truck up and use something to try and pry the LCA away from the spindle. There should be no movement there but if there is, your ball joints are done.

I really need to just replace mine even though they feel tight still. 185k miles on the originals.

well, odd steering for one, lane drifting, constantly making small corrections to drive straight, weird vibes, pulling to one side or the other while braking & having to let go of steering wheel after said braking to correct itself, unusual creaking or groaning, clunks & pops, & the list goes on... & thats the problem, theres at least 5 things that can cause these symptoms, personally I'd change them out just so you can get servicable (greaseable) ball joints. & dry joints is what causes probably 95% of failures & ours of course are "non servicable"

Yup, I had almost 1/2" inch deviation of play (gee wonder why it snapped:eek::eek:)

I've got 182K steve, I think you oughtta change them bro' for that reason

Dodge is the copycat. Those stripes have been around far longer than the current dodge stuff.

Bummer about the ball joint man. Makes me want to go check mine out even though they were replaced last year.

Yeah well, its kinda my own fault for not jumping on it sooner, I could feel they were going south on me a few weeks back but just didn't have the $ at the time to do them, I'm just glad it didn't happen at speed...

Scared the shit out of me nonetheless, big "POP" & driverside dropped about a foot instantly, All it took to finish it off was backing up about 1.5', slight turn of the wheel & kaboom !!

I just love perma sealed perma "lubed" parts....fuck....
