So I asked John this question via text but I figured I would throw it out there for others who may know.

What's the average drop for a carrier bearing? Would a 1" drop be too much?

 

average drop is .25''-.5''. the ones I gave Nam were .25'' i believe. 1'' is most likely too much. i think you have more lift than me, and i'd assume my CB is a little more worn than yours, but the .25'' drop had my drive shaft (for lack of a better description) making a smiley face. after being removed, the two sections now create a straight line.

without a double cardan, you actually want the two pieces to make a frowning face, with the output from the transmission, and the pinion being parallel.

 

Thanks for the input. I figured it was too much, but was thinking of a use for some front diff drop pucks that our used car guy has tons of. They are the perfect size for it, except the fact that they are 1" thick. Oh well, just an idea. I personally don't have a need for them just figured if it would work I might as well.

 

got a band saw at the shop or a pipe cutting blade guide? just chop one in half.

Tonight when me and Kristine pulled in the driveway I saw this, guess I brought some of the trail with me.



I drove to work and back with that and had no idea.

One time i took the rhino to the mountains and came back with a bunch of ice that was like 4” thick. it was about 28 * or so up their that day, all kinds of snow and mud holes frozen over enough to hold close 2k pounds.(rhino+me and dad and extra gas, cooler with food and drinks and a box of extra cloths tow ropes, a chain, and few other things. we did brake thru some ice covered mud holes, never got stuck 4wd locked front and rear FTW!
