AR Style .22 Suggestions

Mine is a PSA lower, .22 upper, Bettermag adapter so one can use 15-22 mags.... I wanted a "real" AR as a .22. But looking back, I would have been better off just buying the 15-22.

M&P 15-22 all day long! Absolutely love mine and for $480 from walmart I couldn't pass her up.

You can order that m&p 15-22 at the big MCX on base. You just wont get that 30 round mag.

i think threaded barrels are illegal in CA.
if you move, it shouldn't be to hard to thread the barrel

 

ive got a smith and wesson m&p15-22lr. I bought it like three years ago for 430 bucks. its great to shoot. i knocked the roll pin outa the stock to adjust it down for my wife to shoot,she loves it. the iron sights that it comes with are shit,so buy some battle sights that are for the real ar's,or top it with a red dot like i did. the bushnell i put on it was just somethin i had kickin around,its not the best red dot by any means. but its on there for my wife to shoot a targets under fifty yards so it does the job.the magazines are hard to find around here so i ordered 4 of em off ebay. overall i think the guns worth what i paid for it, the used ones are sellin for the same price as new ones. my buddie bought the sig sauer version of their 223 in 22lr it was 450 bucks. it has a folding stock which is nice in the truck. bothguns are recoil opperated so no gas tubes like their big brothers. both guns have held up well to the abuse we have put them through.and 22 ammo is cheap and realy a blast to shoot.hope this helped.

 

This is the route I'm going, bought a cheap 10/22 the other week, with a couple BX-25 magazines, and ordered an Archangel kit this week. But just a warning about the 10/22s; Like this site the mod bug will get you!

Thought I would spend a little over $400 on my tactical 10/22 set up like this, with a couple BX-25 magazines. But already at $600 and counting and haven't even ordered my green mountain fluted bull barrel yet or a host of other mods.

Here's my list of modded parts so far ordered this week, that I didn't plan on buying:

1) Volquartzen exact edge extractor
2) Volquartzen auto bolt release
3) Volquartzen bolt buffer
4) Custom charging handle
5) Tactical Inovations Flash Hider for stock barrel
6) Magpul AFG2 foregrip
7) BSA Sweet 3-9x40 scope

Also plan on sending the trigger housing out for a trigger job, and ordering some side picatinny rails for the hand guard, picatinny rail covers, a bi-pod, an offset red dot scope, and possibly a flashlight or laser! lol

Probably should have just bought a real AR with a .22 upper, but to late now and having fun piecing this thing together and modding it anyway!

 

Made up my mind and will be purchasing the MP 15-22. Can anybody recommend a good scope to put on it in the $100-$200 range?

my mp 15-22. you wont regret that purchase, i have shot a few different .22 AR's and this is by far the best one.
btw mine has an inexpensive cabela's 3x9 scope on it now and it is awesome out to 100 yds. havent been anywhere that i can shoot father unfortunatly.

 

Here is my problem with Sig. A customer bought a brand new sig 1911-22. on his first outing the guide rod broke. He brought it to me. I called Sig and they knew their was a problem with this and agreed to send me a new one free of charge. 3 weeks later I still had not recieved it. They said they would send me another one. 3 weeks later I still had not received it. I called them the 3rd time and this time they said we havent shipped them because we are witing on them to come in from Germany. I called them out on lying to me twice! I eneded up building one for this gun. It has been over a year now and I still have not received the guide rod they promised to ship me. In my opinion Sig firearms are junk and this company is one that I will never do business with. Don't mean to bash peoples stuff, but people need to know what they are buying when they buy a Sig. If you know anyone that works for Sig, please tell them what I am publicly saying about their company!

 

I just did a lot of research on .22 scopes, and ended up going with the Nikon P-22. It costs about $150, and seems like a quality scope for that price range. I have no complaints at all, seems like the best reasonably priced tactical .22 scope out in my opinion. Check it out.

It has a 50yd parallax specifically for .22s. Also has ballistically matched turrets for .22LR ammo, it comes with both regular velocity and high velocity turret caps.

It's only 2-7x32mm, I had wanted a 3-9x40mm scope and wasn't sure if I'd be happy with the power. But after buying it, I can say it's perfectly suited for a .22 and for the price/quality I don't miss the extra 8-9x. I'm very happy with it, very clear and bright.

Good luck with the MP 15 - 22! I hear good things about them, compared to lots of problems with anything that's not a Ruger 10/22 or S&W MP 15-22. Watch out for a lot of junk optics in the $100 range!

 

You made the right choice. It's hard to beat the M&P. My friend has a Ruger with an archangel kit and it seems really flimsy and cheap. You wont regret your decision.

 

Just curious what is really flimsy and cheap about your friend's archangel kit? Does he have an older or a newer kit?

I just built a 10/22 with one of the newer 556 archangel kits, and it's anything but flimsy or cheap. I've held both guns, and was very impressed with the quality of the archangel kit. I can't hardly flex the hand guard if I try, the polymer used is very high quality, and the fit with my receiver housing is superb.

If an AR-15 clone or training gun is what your going for then the 15-22 is the way to go, as it functions exactly like a real AR. However, if you don't care about AR functionality and competition accuracy and reliability is what your after, then the 10/22 built up with some aftermarket parts just can't be beat in my opinion.

 

Im not sure if his is an older version or not. The stock on his kit is very flimsy and feels very weak. The handguard twists a little and doesn't fit well to the receiver. Im not trying to say all the kits are bad im just giving my personal experience. I also have a 10/22 and I love it. I just wouldn't ever set it up as a tactical style .22. I also feel that the 15/22 is just as reliable. Iv had mine for years and I don't even know how many thousands of rounds and iv never had an issues with it. Id say they are both just as reliable.

 

The Nordic componets are by far the best AR style components built for the 10/22.
