Modifying driver seat

I'm 6'2" and find their is no thigh support in the tacoma. I know I'm not alone. Anybody try this mod on a tacoma?

 

Im 6'1 and the sport seats are pretty good length wise for me

 

Using aluminum as the op did in that thread wouldn't have the strength the steel had. The possibility of mount failure would be greater in a collision imo. Steel would be safer.

 

No turning back now. I did the mod yesterday. I cut the legs off the back of the seat rails with a recip saw and drilled out the rivets. I then cleaned them up with a grinder. I used 1/4" flat bar for the new legs and bolted them on with 1/4" bolts. The only problem I had is when I bolted it back in the truck the seat wouldn't go back all the way. It was hitting the mounting bolt on the floor, so I had to put 2 washers between the rail and the new legs. I'm going to have to put another piece of flat bar where I have the washers now. Monday I going to take the seat back out, have the bar welded to the rails and paint them. Never drove it yet but just seating in it feels much better.

 

Props for hacking up the seat frame! That's a mod that would not have occured to me...
I'm 6'1" and am very comfy in my DCSB... I even have the seat forward 2 clicks...

 

I have the seat more than 2 clicks forward. That's the problem, I have to have it forward to reach the wheel comfortably but then my legs are bent at such an angle that the back of my thighs are not touching the bottom cushion. I wish the wheel telescoped more than an inch. I was in a Jetta GLI a couple of days ago and couldn't believe how far the wheel telescoped. Must of been a good 4".

 

I've modified my seat mounts, dead pedal, clutch pedal, and shift lever to get the ergonomics correct for me. I spend too many hours driving to have it all wrong. I wish the manufacturers cared more about ergomonics. What they sell is the equivalent of selling shoes in size 10 only. Too big? too small? = tough luck. The effort that it takes to make a vehicle fit is one reason I keep mine a long time. I don't want to go back through all that on the new one. All the important adjustments for proper fit could be made adjustable or at the very least replaceable with the right parts. It affects control of the vehicle, and visibility out of the vehicle in addition to comfort. With airbags involved, the situation can actually become hazardous for smaller drivers. It sucks.

very surprised when i found out the seat wasn't height adjustable. I have spacers to angle the seat more forward. I'm 5'8".

 

Agreed on the horrible ergos of the stock cab.
Compared to my '95 Suburban... seat all the way back, comfortable foot/leg position, and the bottom edge of the wheel was in my lap.

Taco? 2 clicks forward, comfortable reach to the wheel and my legs are bent.
Seat all the way back, legs are comfy but I can't reach the wheel or dash controls comfortably.

Toyota must have found a guy with gorilla arms to design the cab around.

 

x2 have the exact same problem. in order to get it to the right position, something is being compromised, and on long drives, it starts to take a toll

Crazy... I'm 6'4" and I'm very comfortable in my taco. I've got the seat a couple clicks up from the farthest setting...

 

I am 5'-11" but would like to have the seat higher (maybe a couple of inches).How did you add the spacers and where? Is there any ways to raise all four mounts?
If you may include pictures, would be greatly appreciated.

I beg to differ.

Newer vehicles, including Toyotas, I have a problem where when I move the seat far enough back to have comfortable leg room, I can not comfortable hold the wheel and reach the dash controls.

My '94, seat all the way back, everything fit nicely.
My '95 Suburban, the wheel was a little cramped with the seat all the way back, but not bad... I just couldn't hold a drink cup between my thighs.
The '03 Tundra was pretty good... nice balance like the '94, maybe a little too much room... I didn't run the seat back all the way, but leg/arm room was well balanced.

The '08 Taco, I'm 6'3" and I've got the seat 2 clicks forward and there's still plenty of "headroom" in my lap.

 

Japanese truck only in name. Taco is one of the most American trucks out there. Motors made in huntsville al and Texas I believe also, assembled in ca and baja Cali but not much from japan. And since America is the only place to find tacomas id say theyre prolly designed for us.

 

California production plant shut down in 2010 (and became a Tesla production facility).
Tacoma's are made in San Antonio now.
