Any info on 5.7L Tundra motor swap into a 2nd Gen Tacoma?

I've searched for a long time on this topic and have come up with nothing useful. It looks like Toyota put a 5.7L into an x-runner once. Other than that, I see no info on anyone that has done this swap. I see that electronics are a sticking point for some and cost is obviously a factor. Any info out there on this swap? Anyone attempted it? This is a project that I want to start in June/July.

Toyota did a full engine/tranny/rear axle swap. The harness was challenging for even the factory techs.

I didn't know you can get X-Runners with manual crank windows?

We have all thought about this, and all wish it existed. But idk of anybody doing it. Wish toyota would offer it straight from dealer. That and a diesel motor.

 

My plan as well, with the additional complexity of retaining 4WD.

 

You'd probably be better off mating up the older 4.7 or maybe even the new 4.6 V8. The 4.7 used the same tranny that's in our 5 speed autos. The A750E/F.

 

I know that swap has been done. I'm not interested.

That would be a much easier swap. The older v8 is a great candidate for a supercharger and can easily be boosted to higher power than a factory 5.7L. It has a lot of benefits, but not really what I am looking for.

 

If someone could make a 5.7 swap kit, especially one that works for 4x4's, they would make lots of $$.

I would definitely be in line for it.

 

I'm not sure that a kit would be possible with this swap. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but I think the cost of the kit would be far too expensive and labor intensive for the market.

 

I have no idea what would be involved in the swap, but I was imagining a swap kit like they have for LS and Hemi Jeeps or even LS Miatas

Short answer: Because I want to. I think it would be a great setup for a lot of reasons. Not everyone shares the same interests or the same set of requirements for a vehicle.
