This thread did it for me. I've been debating a new tire size to go with my lift and some added clearance. Currently running bfg ATs 265/75/16. I'm going with the 255/85/16. Thanks for all the info everybody.

    Sweet! Thanks!

Ya, I think I'll be placing an order for some 255 KM2's soon. :D

This thread did it for me. I ordered a set of KM2's over the weekend. They should be here Tuesday and I set up an appointment to have them installed Thursday. By the way, to anyone still looking for a set, eBay is the cheapest I have found them yet. $932 shipped.

You can run this tire size on a stock suspension with plastic trimming. Maybe toss your front mud flaps and trim the inner fender liner. From what I've gathered the sport wheels have the worst backspacing. I'd like to see these tires km2's on sport wheels 255/80/17 on a stock trd sport suspension. I think it can be done. What do you think?

Only if you put in new bump stops to eliminate all up-travel.

What makes you say that? A lift doesn't change where your tire up travels to. So unless you are saying wheel backspacing makes the tire stuff better then every lifted taco with 255's needs new bump stops too.

    Yes it does.
With a 3" lift and you hit a bump that compresses your front 3" your tire will be the stock distance from fender. Hit that same bump with a stock suspension and your tire will be 3" closer to the fender.
255s with smaller lifts need new bumpstops. Check with Skip (XXXX)

That's all well and good on the road, but if you fully stuff the tire it's in the same spot, lifted or not.

Same principles apply on & off road.
Lift coils are stiffer than stock or in the case of 5100s with stock preloaded coils (which decreases up travel).
Show me a picture of a non SAS front tire that is fully stuffed.
The back are the only ones that fully stuff & Skip put in new bump stops to keep them from over stuffing.
With 2 3/4" lift up front my tire is 6" from the fender so if you remove my lift that puts the tire 3 1/4" from the fender and with softer stock springs that tire is going to hit the fender (outside not inside) unless the wheels are straight.

If your lift does not let you fully stuff the tire then you have a poorly designed lift. The physical limitation of up travel on a stock vehicle is the bump stops. By your argument the physical limitation of up travel on your vehicle is the springs, which would mean all of that force is on the top and bottom plates of your coilover. That's bad, and if true we would see many people with blown out coilovers and coilover mounts. And if you think you don't max out your suspension even just street driving then you've got some pretty nice road because a pothole can make you hit the bump stops. I'll try to get a picture for you next trip, but the clean spots on my frame where the bumps hit is proof enough for me that my front tires fully stuff with my lifted suspension.

No I'm not saying the physical limitation of up travel on your vehicle is the springs. But the spring size & rate affect how much force it takes to get to the physical limitation of up travel, the bump stops.
How much lift do you have up front? 2"?
Are you on the bump stop there?
So what would happen in that situation if you lowered it 2" with softer spring (stock), put tires on it that were 1.5" taller & turned the wheel?
To me stuffed is when you can't see the top of the tire because it's stuffed inside the wheel well.

Just because the springs make it harder to get to your maximum up travel doesn't mean you can't and shouldn't account for it. If you're throwing bigger bump stops on because you are hitting the fender liner you are just limiting travel rather than fixing the problem.

And full stuff is when your on the bump stops. Most likely the tire is inside the wheel well, but that is irrelevant to weather or not it is fully "stuffed".

Does anyone run the KM2's in this size for daily driving use? I'm wondering how they would compare to a 285 all terrain, in regards to MPG...
