dirt bikes

i have always been interested in getting into dirt biking i was wondering if anyone here could suggest a good starter bike or at leastwhat is like bottom line of the full size bikes im not exatly sure how the whole cc scale works

start on a 125cc 2 stroke. lots of power, but manageable. you'll be jumping the thing in no time

i learned on an 89 Suzuki RM125. i was a freshman in high school and i couldn't even touch my feet to the ground. had to use a milk crate to balance on it and to kick start it. about 2 weeks of trial and error playing with the clutch and throttle but within a month i was screaming across the fields next to my house. just go out there and do it on your own....best way to learn IMO......it was intimidating but awesome

I do agree with the 125cc but the 2 stroke.... You have to ride that thing hard if you want to get 3-4 months of spark from the spark plugs

 

is craigslist the best place to find anything you think?

 

yea definitely. dont buy one from the dealer since its ur first. You could pry even hande a 250 four stroke depending on your size. Look into getting a crf250. You cant go wrong with that.

 

how tall are you and how much do you weigh ?

a 125 is a good starter bike but if your a bigger person then you might wnat to consider a 250

 

I got a crf250x. Its a trail bike. I am about 5,8 less than 150 pounds with no problem. Bike weighs 225lb. CRF250R is also a good choice but for the track. That feels like a feather at 200lb. Gears are short tho. 3,4,5 on the 250x are long. Either way they are great bikes. Need to be maintained tho. If you are looking used make sure that the oil was changed often.

Still you will have no problems riding the honda. The crf has the highest seat in the industry.

i would go with any of the 250 four strokes especially honda or yamaha

 

Try cycletrader.com they have a lot of used and new bikes for sale. its a pretty good website. I have a honda crf 230 and have outgrown it and looking for a new bike. But you couldnt go wrong with a crf 250. For a beginner i would recomend a 4-stroke just because they are a little easier to ride, you can lug them and stuff like that. just my 2 cents

Whatever you do. Do not start on a 2-stroke. Start ona 4-stroke.
Crf250r is a reasonable beginner bike depending onyour size. 2-strokes
have way to much power for a beginner. And being a beginner you want to putt
around and get used to your bike, on a 2 stroke you cant do that you have to always be in high rpm's and in the powerband or you'll foul a plug. good luck with your choice.

 

i think a 2 stroke is the wrong starter bike, go with a 4 stroke.

and if you have never ridden before try to find smething used on craiglist.

i would suggest a honda XR200 as a starter, anything from the 80's-90's. plenty of power, reliable, easy to ride, low seat

 

Well said. A 2-stroke is to much for a beginner. When riding a 2-stroke you gotta ride it like you stole it.
