I was told years ago after I paid the $$$ for my O2 sensor that you can try to pull the old one out and take a propane torch to it and burn the crap off it and see if it works. After looking at mine afterwards I have a feeling it would have in my case. It really didn't look that bad.

A couple of my old '89 XtraCab. You can see the old-style Yokohama Muddiggers in one pic.

FI was first available in '85 but both were available for a few years. I think '87 was the last year for a carb but I wouldn't swear by it.

I was just going through the service manual and found this troubleshooting page that might help you: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-buchanan/93fsm/engine/63troubles.pdf

With the weather getting warmer I've been missing the top down driving experience of my old FJ40. Still miss this rig and can't wait to build another one.

1976 FJ40. This pic is on the old sluice on the Rubicon

Alright, sence this is the old school thread, what would you guys do?

This vehicle is not for sale. (Yet)??? Cry cry hope not.
I have a 14 month old son and have been living pay check to pay check pretty much, my wife and I both work but we just can't seem to get ahead.
All I'm asking to my fellow TW members is an opinion, what would you do if you where in my situation???? (I want to keep it its my decision not my wife's and she hasn't even brought it up)

I don't have a high mortgage or any car payments, just things seem to pile up and I'm tired of it. I know selling my 85' could help out with a lot of bills for us and help us grow as a family, but I feel like I would be kicking myself in the ass everyday if I did choose to sell it. I've already sold my 84' pickup and that was a tear jerker.

Sorry about the rant. Help TW !

    Thanks again,

    Brett

sell the tacoma and daily the '85. You can always get another tacoma, you can't always get another '85 that clean.
