While I don't agree with the injector statement (other than less gas is burned at idle than at partial throttle), I do agree with the high mileage statement with coasting. When I exit the freeway every day at 65 MPH and put the clutch in, my instant MPG jumps to about 170. Of course this is short-lived so it's impact on trip MPG is subtle. But every little bit counts and coasting whenever you can will definitely help.

If I don't put the clutch in and coast in gear (again at 65 MPH), it doesn't crack 100 MPG. The higher revs demand more fuel based on the computer's required air/fuel mixture, therefore MPG's are lower.

I have experimented on several hills and coasting in gear always uses more fuel than coasting with the clutch in, at least with my truck.

Interesting... my automatic goes over 100 all the time.
    I don't think it's ever topped 200, but it's been close.

Two variables...transmission and engine size. Maybe three (diff ratio).

EDIT: Heck, Gen 1 versus Gen 2!

I just checked the mileage on my recently purchased 2010 SR5. Its been lifted and has 17 in rims, open bed. First full tank yielded 14 MPG! Mostly city driving and one day had a load of gravel in the bed....but I was soft-footing it most of the time. Is this normal? It has only 32,000 miles on it. Will mileage improve with time and filter mod? What else can be done?

Forget the filter mod, it doesn't help.
