Nice! I have that same Makita 5" grinder. Had it for over 15 years. Great grinder. Good setup you have.

 

Agreed on the grinder, we use Hitachi grinders at work and when I used my Makita to do that cut it was like night and day. Thanks.

Welding Pewter



When we cast it it can out with pitting/porosity so I had to weld em.



Rain stopped me from welding up a new x member for shocks.

 

I know there will be a bunch of different opinions but I want to hear them all.

I basically don't know jack about welding. For someone who just wants to do small home projects or small stuff for their truck, would a stick welder or a wire core welder be best? A friend gave me a wire core welder, but I am finding it not easy to use/weld with.

I have found a few used lincoln/miller stick welders on craigslist for around $300 and up.

 

IWould Go With The Flux Core Much Easier To Weld With IMO.

Has anyone seen pictures of a bed rack that works around having a UWS lowpro toolbox in the bed as well? If I'm looking for a full bed rack to hold a spare, hi lift, shovel, and two gas cans, would it be easier to just take out the toolbox and get a container to throw tools in and bolt it to my bed/throw it in the rear of my cab?

No, more along the lines of a full size bed rack that sits level with the roof of the cab. I'd like to somewhat maintain use of my bed and sight line.

What kind of machine did he give you? Did he give it to you because he don't know jack about welding too or did he upgrade to a better machine? If he has been using it successfully, ask him to show you HOW to use it. The wire feeder is easier to learn than stick for most people. I learned on stick and years later started MIG(wire feed). I fell right into it easily, no stopping to change rods. If it's a Harbor Freight rig, that could be a lot of your problems right off the bat. They are not known to be excellent machines to start with. Someone may occasionally get a decent one and can use it if they are already familiar with welding. But they are not recommended for someone trying to learn on. Soooo, what machine do you have?

 

I think I'm actually going to just take the toolbox out and get some storage containers going in my back access cab seats. Nice rack though Eric.

It's an older welder, its a Triple-A Specialty Co. mig flux welder. He had been using it for over 10 years he said and he decided it was time to upgrade to a new welder so he gave me this one.
