S&W or Ruger 44 magnum?

I own a Taurus Titanium .357 7-shot snubby (model 617). While it's a joy to carry all day, with full-power magnum loads, it kicks like a pissed off mule on steroids. And I'm used to shooting hot .44 mag through my Super Redhawk.

 

I don't think its all that bad its just a 44mag that weighs as much as a steel snuby. I've been shooting 250 Grn Winchester hollow points.

 

Light weight and Magnum do not belong in the same sentence.

Wife couldn't handle the kick of .38spl in her LCR, and I didn't like it.

SP101 snubbie are no problem.

I can't imagine how the new 357 LCR handles.

 

LOL I disagree with the price of 44 ammo I'm not going to be doing and speed shooting anyways just enuff to stay prof. On the other hand this is my most carried/used weapon. It goes where ever I do in the woods hiking/archery Etc. Heavy guns get left at home. Notice the holster wear it actually looks worse in person. I love it.

 

OP I voted Ruger cause if i'm gunna own a Single action I'm sure as hell expect it to be rated for the hot loads. And with how ammo is right now you want to be able to grab any box on the shelves not pass one up cause your pistol is not rated.

 

I'm not worried about current ammo, I reload, but I'm not interested in hot reloads. Fwiw I'm shooting 300 grainers, mostly set up for a 1894AE lever action. My 629 has held up fine for 9 or so years now. I have my dad's super Blackhawk. Nice as it is I'm likely to sell it, I just don't use .44 for any hunting at this point. I'm shooting mostly 9mm & 10mm since I have a fair amount of ammo for them.

6" Ruger Blackhawk .357
Ruger Super Redhawk .44 (7" barrel?)

Having shot and carried all of these, I have to put in a good word for the Tracker. It definitely depends on what you're using it for but if you're hauling it about, it's hard to beat the light weight and shorter barrel. I don't notice the Tracker elk hunting or snowshoeing.

If you like to push the limit on reloading, then the Super Redhawk is the best choice. Otherwise, I'd just buy the one you find most attractive. 'Course, I must admit that I once went after a full-size Kimber but walked out with an Ultra Carry II because it matched my shoes.

 

my brother ordered a Ruger Alaskan. the wait time is amazing. been about 8 months so far.

reviews says this thing never has any issues. the S&W has a few reports about issues due to the big pressures of the 44 mag.

i vote Ruger. the thing feels solid. i like the cylinder release button on the ruger alaskan better than most revolvers.

 

My buddy just got an Alaskan, we shot it and my Tracker at Christmas and the Ruger was easier to shoot because it's heavier, even with the shorter barrel.

I don't think you can go wrong with any revolver mentioned so far, just post pics

I have a Ruger Redhawk with a 7 1/2" barrel and Hogue grips and it's a dream to shoot. My buddy sold his S&W 629 with a 6" barrel because "the recoil was too much."

 

not to hijack..but what is your signature photo? that rig drilling in water expanded anchors? swellex anchors?

 

Both are great brands, great guns, great caliber.

Which one is more comfortable? That's the one I'd go with.
