Billy 5100's or 3" ToyTec

Hey guys, I've seen tons of trucks here and to be honest, I've loved them all. I was wondering wether to get Billy 5100's or a 3 inch ToyTec lift, but I need some suggestions. I would like to get my truck as high as possible between the 3 inch lift kit and the Billy's, but I also want something that isn't expensive to buy or to install. So here's my goal: Something cost effective to buy and install but looks awesome at the same time.

 

good question and I am also curious for a response since I just bought my brand new 09 dblcab and want to lift it up a little to fit 33s. dont mean to intrude on your thread either but just don't want to start one of my own.

 

If you want something cost effective then go with the Bilstein 5100's. If you absolutely want 3" of lift then don't settle for anything less than the Toytec Ultimate Lift Kit (coilovers with aal). There are cheaper ways to go 3" but I won't list them as you both have 2009's and there's no point in putting a cheap solution on your brand new truck. Sounds harsh but I highly recommend saving up and putting a good lift on and being happy with the ride etc.. than putting in a low budget lift and having your new truck ride like a shopping cart. The 5100's give a nice lifted look and don't sacrifice ride quality as well as being fairly inexpensive. That extra half inch won't make a huge difference so if you need 3" then save up and shy away from spacers. If you are mostly rolling on the streets then a spacer lift might suffice.

SecretSquirrel: Could you post a link to the correct top plate from ToyTec? I already know about the Billy's but not too sure which top plate you're talking about. Sorry!

 

I was going to respond but this answer is an excellent response. This is the same mindset that should be used on most all purchases and upgrades. Do the homework and make your dollar stretch farther.

Squirrel is correct. You need (2) plates, one for each FRONT coil, and the rear will be an AAL or leaf pack spacer. The AAL is the better option.

 

No AAL just TSB. So just 2? Wow, I'm really when it comes to the suspension.

 

hey i was in the same situation and i went with the toytec much happier and you will be to.. i also have a 2009 and i figured that i want to do it right the first time and not worry about it.. also with the toytec you have the warranty.

Also keep in mind that at 3" you'll need to consider the UCA's because at this height, there may be issues... Also if you don't have the TSB (search more) and will be considering this, make that your first move as there will be a height increase.

Well let me save you some time if you want to know if you need the TSB, how many leaf springs do you have in the rear? Just 3? OK, now you have another project.

Best of luck with your lift, I just did the 5100's in front with 1.75" and the TSB with a 1" block in the rear. It's forward canted but I dont' mind. It also looks much tougher with this lift. I'm just a prerunner so I went with a mild lift.

What is TSB?

 

Search TSB there is plenty about it... It specifically means Toyota Service Bulletin but I was referring to the rear leaf spring TSB for this thread.
