Need a definite answer. I own an '08 double cab TRD Sport package with 2WD and auto tranny (do I have an 8.4 diff?)....

***Can I use a 4:10 gear that came out of a 1st gen 4x4, V6 Tacoma 5 Speed???? Came with the 4.10's out of an 8.4 Diff (NON E-Locker)

    Definitely "YES", or definitely "NO"???

Also, does it matter that this gear came from a 4x4 truck?....other than I only need the ring and pinion for my 2WD rear diff only?

    Thank you! :)

Thanks for the link, ill be reading through that tonight!

I think there's an "install kit" that needs to be purchased also in order to complete just a ring and pinion swap?
My plan is to simply drop off the truck at a local reputable axle shop and hand them the ring and pinion and say call me when you're done (not doing this myself).

Is that a "kit" I could also get from the dealership? My guess would be that the dealer sells all the pieces seperately. Either way, I wonder if the parts are better to get from Toyota vs aftermarket brand.

Because I know a guy who's selling only a ring and pinion (already removed from its original vehicle).
