Hey, I have a question about manual driving. What is the correct step to do throughout the process of making a right or left hand turn on a green light? Say I am going 40 mph in 4th gear. What do I do before and after the turn? Can someone explain the process? Thanks! :)

Push in clutch, downshift to 2nd and brake to slow down. As you've slowed to about 25 start letting out the clutch to help slow you and then make your turn. As you accelerate you upshift as normal. Always take corners under power, never coast.

    Why such a noob question?

There is no true "correct" way. Drive the truck in which the way is comfortable to you. Personally, I would downshift to third while braking before the turn, then to 2nd when I enter the turn, and shift to third as I exit the turn.

+1 for GoBlue's post.... just go for second gear, slow yourself down with second gear once you're slow enough that you don't over-rev it. Take the corner in second gear and take a nice easy power out. Like he said earlier, don't coast corners.

something to think about...you are putting twice the wear/tear on your rear tires when you use a lot of engine braking. .02
Nothing wrong with driving that way...

Uuumm you shift down one gear at a time while on the brakes, making sure not to down shift too fast and not have your rpm's get high. Down shift each time when your rpm's get low and the engine rpm's will help it slow down. You should practice out in a field or a wide open area, with someone that has experience. I think the best way for someone to learn about this is to do it first with a dirtbike. Also try not to shift into neutral. There are a lot of differant ways but make sure not to down shift to fast if your doing normal braking but if you have to stop fast you may have to shift down fast.

hey, thanks for the help above. so i always suppose to be in second gear before i enter the turn right? or do i go into 2nd gear while turning? also, i was trying to search and people were talking about rev-matching during downshift. do you guys rev-match when turning with the steps above or do you just put the shifter into second gear and just easing off the clutch while using no gas pedal at all? thanks again!

Just try it either way dood. You will find they way you like to drive it. Don't worry, the truck will tell you if what you are doing is wrong. Stay away from the rev matching until you develop a driving style.

Don't downshift during a turn, it could upset the trucks handling. Finish your shifting before the turn.

98tacoma27 makes a good point, develop a driving style first. How fast your going around a turn will determine what gear you need to be in. It just takes some driving time to determine what gear you need to be in. If you come out of a corner in too high of a gear your car will have a harder time accelerating to driving speed.
