OK, So this is my first post and I am desperate for a solution. I have a 2006 2WD Tacoma. 4door. No mods except for interior stuff. I had a slight vibration and a loud squeak (sounded like a hamster wheel) coming from what i believed was my drive shaft and U joints) . I had the wheels balanced and aligned just to be sure that's what it was before I dropped the DS. That didn't help, I still had the vibration. I dropped the drive shaft replaced all 3 U joints and put a new Center Support Bearing from DEA. I re-installed the drive shaft making sure to put it back exactly as I removed it to preserve the balance and it still vibrates. The hamster wheel squeak is gone but the vibration is still there. The only thing different now though is it use to vibrate at very low speeds 10 mph and then again past 55 mph. Now it is a smooth ride until I get to 25 mph and the vibration is consistent and loud now. Does anyone know what else I can do? I really dont want to take it to a shop.

Take it on the highway and turn the wheel sharply, if the vibration/ hum goes away while turning and returns while going straight its wheel bearings.

haha... ya, and then the sound of crashing into the center divider will drown out the squeak :D

I had a wheel bearing problem on the left front. All it takes is a slight quick wheel movement to troubleshoot this problem. I believe bad wheel bearing is opposite the wheel movement if vibration dissipates.

Yeah I should have rephrased that, turn the wheel slightly.

Thanks for the tip... The vibration goes away when i do a slight quick movement at highway speeds.. Such a relief that this is now diagnosed. Only thing is it goes away no matter which way i jerk the wheels. So I guess I'm replacing both.

Also on a good note... I did not crash into the center divider!! just scared the heck out of nearby vehicles. I had no choice.. My taco comes first!

Thanks Soniccruzer and greyeyezz and Beavis!!

when my front driver bearing went out, i heard loud metal scraping noise, and felt rough but no vib, another way to check bearing is lift up the tire and grab it and try to push and pull it back and forth, and if there is excess play, then the bearing is going out, also if you spin it and it doesn't spin smoothly

another q, when it is vibrating, if you put it in neutral, does it go away?

Pretty sure this post was before the infamous bedliner post so truck vibrations was the least of his worries. I've been watching Dateline to see if the whereabouts or fate of Kuffer14 will be revealed.
