Can my Tacoma tow this?

I would say 6000 is a little close to the limit. its easy to accidentally go 500 lbs over. Better to not blow up the tranny. Maybe go a size down? Or a truck size up?

 

I would look at lighter trailers or a better truck. I just purchased a 4,400lb trailer. This 6400lb rated pos can't tow it. Now I have to trade it in for a real truck.

So save yourself the headache!

 

I'd say get yourself a lighter trailer considering you're bringing an ATV plus passengers, gear etc. They're out there but you just have to look and have patience in your search. Taco's can tow, but I wouldn't push it to the extreme tow limits, plus the hitch ball itself, at least mine is rated for 6,000lbs MAX. But like fellow members have mentioned, go get yourself a Tundra or other truck that can handle what you want to tow if you choose that camper.

I might be renting a camper this year 24ft and only 3800lbs I believe. Might be a little more in the low 4000lb range. And that's it. I don't want to blow up my truck or my tranny when it's not even a year old yet!

I tow my 21' toy hauler with mine. Dry weight 4500lbs, and I figure by the time I have a few bikes/ gear/ food and what not, I'm close to 6k lbs. It does it fine. You will need to upgrade your rear suspension to handle the tongue weight. A s/c will help power you around easier though I get about 8mpg while towing it

 

My tacoma tows my 5300lb trailer just fine. Maybe you need to look at your setup.

 

exactly. with the right set up, you can do it just fine. though a bigger truck/ smaller trailer, would do it easier. the 6 or 7 long weekends out to the desert for me, the tacoma does fine. just need to fill water and fuel once i get there since thats another 1200 lbs i don't want to tow the whole way there. so the last 20 miles of my typical journey i'm over weight, and dump it all before the return trip

 

Well it can pull it pretty good I would say, I had my taco with a 7x14 enclosed aluminum trailer with a 2 foot vee nose, 1400lbs empty.... Plus two snowmobiles at 600 each (one was pure hitch weight due to axle/sled placement) 16 5 gallon gas cans, three totes at about 100lbs each, and all our gear which would be an easy 500 pounds, so total weight is about 4000+ lbs of stuff. Add me and dad in. That is 4500 Atleast, pulled that from buffalo ny to north east of sudbury and back. No problems. And truck wasnt not the bump stops yet. Had around 1100-1300 hitch weight I would guess also

 

That looks like a load for a Tundra not a tacoma.

 

We use a Blue Ox Distribution/Sway kit, helps out tons..... Sounds to be WAY too heavy.

 

The coolers are fine the truck's not by the time you'r all loaded with gear, water, beer, propane etc. your going to be well over 6500#. It may move it but it's going to be a white knuckle ride where ever you go. If that thing gets sideways your going with it like it or not.

 

If you guys are going to pull weight like it would be nice if you post where you are going and when so others can avoid that area.

 

So what was the verdict? It was a couple of years ago you asked the question. Did you decide to pull it? Did you make any upgrades? How is it handling? I have a 1999 4x4 v6 rated for 5000 and I want to pull a 22' 3800lbs dry weight trailer so im curious the outcome. Im looking into upgrading to the bilsein 5100 shocks with an add a leaf.
