LOCK/UNLOCK Chirp for DTRL and Alternating turn signal modders

This looks like a great idea! What gage of wire should I use to wire up the buzzer? Looks like your using 14ga maybe?

 

any guage is good as long as its 12-18. Mine is 14 and was kinda over kill. The wire will not bear a big load considering it will just be a very small amount of voltage applied to it.

 

is that what you put in my truck?

 

i think so. I typically just use speaker wire cause its cheaper and has never let me down. If its something bigger i wip out the better wire.

 

Thanks. Also, which one of these Radio Shack buzzers did you use? Do you have a part number by chance

 

gosh, i did at the time. I threw it away. Its the 3-28v piezo buzzer (non pulsing). It's about 6 quarters thick with a little quarter sized recess on the bottom of it.

You used the blue wire. I think you said it was from your back up camera

 

nope. speaker wire. back up camera wire has like 4 cables in it, including a video wire.

 

hooking up to the wireless receiver would work because the receiver only locks the door if the key is not in the ignition. i hooked mine up with a reverse relay(donno what they are called) to the door lock positive(to relay input) key indicator wire (coil ground) 12+ (coil pos) relay output to peizo and ground it to frame there. this makes it only beep when key is not in the ignition it does not beep for door unlock anytime or for door lock when running

Anyone know how to allow the truck to be locked even when the doors are ajar and/or the key is in the ignition....i'm not that familiar with the wiring but In cold mornings in Idaho it is nice to warm up the truck in the mornings and since i have another set of keys its nice to not have your truck out there running while unlocked. Also i would like to be able to lock my doors and then grab an arm load of crap from the truck and shut the door rather than having to keep my keys out and fumble around with them while i have stuff in my arms just to lock it.

 

this shouldn't effect any of that all this is, is to make it so when u get out of your truck at night and lock the doors, it chirps to let u know. it does not effect other systems.

 

as for running on a cold morning i hear ya it get up to -40 where i live. why not get a remote starter and alarm system

 

Thatd be nice yes but friday i am pumping a lot o cash into the truck. 6" fabtech lift, crawler wheels, and 305/70/16 general grabber AT2s so thats just another chunk of change when, if possible, i could just mess with the wiring and make it to where it locks for me whenever i want it to...and just to clear it up i actually have done this mod but thought maybe these guys would know how to do the part i was asking about.

How much does a remote start cost for us anyways...any referrals? also inexpensive alarms?

 

Good luck with a remote start since it's a manual.... Most of the shops I talked to around here either wouldn't do remote starts on manuals, gave me the run around, or had crazy expensive or annoying systems.

As in, systems that require you to prime EVERY time you get out if you want to use them. Prime as in push the remote start, turn the key off, get out, lock the doors, and turn off with remote start. Then if ANY of the doors open the system shuts down and you can't remote start until it's primed again. I can understand it from a liability standpoint. No one wants to be responsible for some jackass remote starting his truck through someone's house, but come on! If I had a system like that I know I'd stop using it within a couple weeks. Between random trips to the truck for forgotten things, tools I carry in it all the time, and the wife running to the gas station for smokes it would never stay primed.

If someone knows of a more.....convenient system I'd love to know about it.

I hear ya. i wondered how that might work...i can see how there would be way to much liability and what is out there sounds like its not worth it.

any ideas on the lock doors "whenever you want to" thing i was talking about?

 

not offhand... I hit the auto lock button when I get out to lock the doors when they're open. I know that doesn't work with keys in the ignition, but I never leave mine in there. I wanna say the keyless entry shuts down with a key in the ignition too, but I haven't tried that in a while.... I think you'd have to bypass a few things or do an aftermarket alarm (probably the easiest way) since it kills the factory remote, and unlocks even if you do it manually with a door open and keys in.
