Ah... I see... he ventured into the performance area in his own post by mentioning the XII Performance sway bars. Gotcha. ;)

I have the QA1s installed and my rear driver's side is slightly higher than the passenger's at about an inch. Is that because they are both the same in length? BTW, where can I find the part number on these shocks?

great thread. we can use the same ideas/parts for current model hilux 4x2.

I like the idea of the spindle spacing. if we lower the front 2" and want/can lower a bit more then its an easy method to drop an extra inch.

also thankyou for the idea of jusing standard 4x4 leaves...never would have thought of that.

there is very limited reference online to current gen lowering for handeling as opposed to looks or just bagging it.

having a lowered truck that handles well is the way to go.

being new to lowering trucks, is there much benefit to fitting a rear swaybar? and how would you mount it? pics?

correct if I am misunderstanding this-

the black rubber piece below the spring, that is effectively a new coil seat that sits lower, allowing the standard coil to drop lower over the coilover compared to the standard position. is that right? this is as simple to fit as diassembling the coilover and dropping this new seat in under the spring, right?

Well what is pictured is basically an Xrunner strut assembly
I believe Tundra Racing makes a lowering kit for the strut which does exactly what you are stating
you replace the stick rubber sleeve under the spring with the Tundra Racing one thus lowering the truck

If you are running XII coils on your truck now and add spacers you are for sure gonna have to align it and iso how far it will be off but it is very possible I hope this sorta helps though

No worries I had a hard ass time finding people who dropped there 2nd gen tacos not many online with knowledge to help but this thread is very excellent helped me out a lot

sorry for the newb questions...like I said, I come from a backrground of lifted suspensions so am flipping my understanding the other way.

    1) If I fitted 2" lowered struts would that be fine with clearance/alignment with the factory UCA's?

    2) If I were to drop it to 3" after that via the spindle spacer would the factory arms and alignment still be able to get within spec?

I wouldnt be lowering more than that. I want performance not just looks.

    3) I see the DJM upper and lower arms are built to space everythign 3" higher. I understand that but are they really necessary if not going more than 3"?

    4) Is it for drops bigger than 3" or for alignment at 3" and lower?

I appreciate your patience, if I am in the incorrect thread please move this to the correct one.

    No worries

1.) Previous to my drop I was running just the XII Performance drop coils and never aligned it and the alignment wasn't to bad but definitely alignable back to spec and yes its totally okay to run with all factory parts
2.) If you decide to run a spacer combined with the coil to achieve 3" drop in the front you will really need to align it and I would assume you should be able to get it within spec however it might max out but Im not totally sure its should be fixable but don't take my word for it
3.) The DJM kit is meant for a 3" drop for the front it isn't meant to be combined with other drop components however it is possible the control arms will keep everything within spec and allow you to drop more and align it if you choose too changing the control arms to raise everything keeps everything like stock with being 3 inch lower
4.) In my honest opinion I say grab some XII performance stock height coils for a stiffer spring rate along with Xrunner struts and the DJM UCA and LCA for a very alignable performance drop
The cheaper way would be to use the spindle spacers combined with the XII performance drop coil however idk how bad the alignment would be

I am currently running XII Performance drop coils combined with DJM UCA and LCA and I maxed my camber at -1.5 which isn't too bad for the height but you catch my drift its too low to bring back to 0

Thankyou for the clarification. I understand now. Both DJM arms allow you to sit 3" lower on the front with standard struts.

therefore I would need a standard height "performance" orientated strut to replace with.

    I like this option.

    thankyou.

Do you really need to notch the chassis rail at the rear with a 3 to 4" rear drop?

could you get away with possible progressive bumpstops or other?

Yeah there are a bunch of options and it all depends on what you really want to do wit your truck

as far as notch you can 3 inch blocks without notch
u could prolyl do 4 inch blocks without notch but will be very close and will prolly bottom out everywhere and thats with low profile bumpstops
Best you could do is 2 inch blocks with 4x4leaf springs to give you about 3.5-3.75 inch drop and get some QA1 rear shocks which are adjustable and you won't need to notch and will be stiffer for better performance

    I hope this all helps
    a nice simple drop
    DJM UCA and LCA
    stiffer coil and strut
4x4 leafs out back 2 inch blocks
    QA1's and low profile bumpstops
Kelson is running that without a notch

You're gonna want to notch with a 4" drop let it be 6lug leafs with a 3" block or 4" blocks on 5lug leafs. 3" and you will need to remove stock bumpstop flange and bumps.

If you are going 3" max up front you would be better off doing djm arms and XII performance stock height higher rate springs for a total of 3.5" of drop up front. Im at 4.5 " of drop and i was able to get my camber to a negative degree per side.

Hey I currently have the xII drop coils on my base model tacoma and 3 Inch blocks on the rear with qa1's but I ordered the djm upper and lower control arm kit. So can I run my drop coils with this kit or do I have to buy the stock height coils ?

You can run the drop coils with the DJM but you will be slammed
you can check out my build I am currently running the XII drop coils and DJM upper and lower control arms
    I rub stock height tires
it really depends on what height you want to be if you keep the drop coils u will sit a total drop of 5" up front if u switch to stock heights you will prolly be 3.25"

Well I think I am gonna order stock height because I don't want to mess up my camber and also looks like it would be aggravating scrubbing on everything I will see how it looks once it is installed with stock height coils I think it will look good to me like that I just mainly wanted the djm arms because my truck leans backwards a little also a little extra drop can't hurt handling either .. I think I will get some x runner bilstiens to replace factory tokicos that should help as well

Stock heights are .5" lower then base 5lugs. Like I said I'm at 4.5/5.5 and I only scrap on super derpy speed bumps and only on the tranny crossmember

What struts are best for front? Are x runner bilsteins the best? I have qa1s in the back.. Also I was looking at a site that sells dealer parts and are both the x runner struts the same ?

What do you mean by both? And yeah so far the best option is xrunner bilsteins.
