I have owned my 2012 DCLB 4X4 Sport for just over a year now. I've owned many trucks and this one is the best I have ever driven. My only (minor) complaint is mileage, but I understand that it's a truck, and I never expected great MPG. I am doing better than the 2011 Silverado 2500 Crew Cab 4X4 I traded in which was good for about 9.5 MPG. My Taco gets me about 16 MPG and I drive about 90% around town with very little highway. I keep track of this and I am 100% certain of the accuracy of my results.

Here's the B.S. part: I'm tired of listening to guys who drive full size trucks claiming 22+ MPG. I filled up this morning and ran into a carpenter I work with who is driving a 2011 4X4 Avalanche. He is claiming 27 MPG. Give me a break. Then I sign on to TW and read a post from a guy who just bought a Dodge, which is another problem altogether, claiming 21 MPG.

I know that the 3rd gen Tacoma, whenever it appears, will probably have better MPG, but in the meantime, I hope the full size crew will stop insulting our intelligence.

Yea I've owned and driven many full size trucks. I have never seen better than 15MPG on any V-8 full size truck. I'm with you on this one, there is no way they getting 20+. Best v-8 MPG I ever got was in my mustang(2001 GT 5-speed) I got around 25MPG.

Agreed. I've had my fair share of full sized trucks. They aren't getting 20+ . They are pulling your bean-whacker, buddy

I use to have a '09 Chevy 4x4 5.3, 12MPG!!!!, 14mpg going down hill, if people are complaining about gas mileage, don't get a truck no matter what size, get a Corolla,35mpg. You going to pay if you want to play!

35 mpg and 300k+ miles. Great beater to allow the Taco to sit home waiting for the weekend. My daughter sold her 1997 Corolla with 289k miles and it was still going strong. My son-in-law did all the proper maintenance and it still purred at 289k. Tough to beat a Toyota!

My dad's 2500 diesel will get 22 on highway runs unloaded. My old 2004 Chevy 5.3 Z71 extended cab would get 19 on the highway but drop to 15 or 16 around town. On the highway, the full sized v8's will break 20 mpg with the electronic crap they have the shut down cylinders but only for long, flat runs and unloaded. If that's the type of driving they most typically do, then they will get good mileage doing so. I don't see how that's so difficult to understand :notsure:

He only says full size trucks, not fullsize gas trucks. Unless his 2500 was an HD, we can assume it's a gas truck. But still there is room to based on the first rant to call into play a diesel engine. Second, I have only see two trucks listed as getting that kind of mileage on a gas engine, F150, and the new RAM 1500 (2013 model).

    Anyhow, rant on!

The F150 EcoBoost does get 20-22mpg on the highway.

Agreed that he never said gas engines. That being said my Dad's 7.3 averages around 21 driving empty. Averages about 9 towing their 5th wheel tho. Meanwhile my 6.4 averaged about 7.. lol

i managed to pull 27 out of my t100 ONCE ... but i dont act like i get that all the time cause its normally somewhere between 17 and 20

    They might be.
    In 2wd with a V-6.

There's no way a HEMI 4X4 which I think puts out close to 400 HP and 400 lb-ft is getting over 15 MPG let alone over 20.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

technology is getting better man, i think that camry that toyota released with 305hp gets close to 30 if not more. I have a friend with an 09 2wd 1500 5.7 that usually averages 20 or so.

My old 98 5.9 Limited Grand Cherokee would get 22-24 mpg on the highway with cruise control set no higher than 70mph. Driving around town though, especially the way I typically drove, it would get about 11/12mpg.

Took my parents Avalanche on vacation, and yea, on the highway with cruise the thing got 22-24mpg. I was expecting to spend a ton driving from WV-SC, but was pleasantly surprised at how well it drank on the highway.

You can call BS if you want, but a V8 on the highway running sub 2K RPM will get great mileage all day long. Around town is a different story though.

My Hemi 2x4 had that engine (I forgot the technical word) that ran in 6 cyls until you either used tow or stepped on the gas hard (as if to pass) then it would switch to 8 cyls.

It's a little fuzzy because I was trying to take a pic while driving but here is the best my Dodge did when I was cruising at 55mph. I took this pic because I knew my husband would not believe me. He hated that truck. :(

For those saying the Dodge 1500 is capable of that mileage... would you stake your paycheck on that? "Capable" can mean yeah is can get that mileage but under test conditions of a dry road, ambient temps between 76 and 90, no traffic on a test loop with and empty fuel tank for the least weight possible. Thats how cars are tested and where those numbers come fron. NO freakin way you will see those numbers in real world driving.
