How Do You Stay Awake While Driving?

Where the hell can we drive far in Hawaii?

 

Why do you think truck drivers have such strict regulations? If they are driving long enough, they are required to switch out drivers, or sleep for so long..
Doesn't matter that their trucks can cause a whole lot more damage than us..
If you think about it, you are in control of a weapon.
and your car can't drive itself..

I've had a few scares and when I was 18 I nodded off and rear ended some one I felt like such an asshole. everyone was ok but i never want to have that happen again. If i feel slightly like im getting too tired to drive, I pull over immediately and take a nap. Energy drinks and loud musac help before I get anywhere near that point.

im not arguing that you should drive sleepy (if you cant stay awake you sure as shit shouldnt be driving), im just saying idt the OP's talking about driving cross country on no sleep, more just how to keep from getting tired behind the wheel

 

big island! Hilo and back is three hours! haha

 

Same with going to Hana here. Lol. Driving 3+ hours after well rested is much easier than driving 30 minutes after a gy shift.

I've nodded off and fallen in the ditch. Since then, I drink an energy drink or just don't drive.
EDIT: energy drink for short drives, else I just sleep.

 

Is it okay for a drunk guy (4 beers in last hour) to drive 2 miles to his house?

I think if you need to do something to keep from getting tired behind the wheel, then anything you do is disguising what is truly going on. Just because you can keep your eyes open, doesn't meant your brain is as functioning.
If I was to stay awake for 24 hours by drinking caffeine all night, how do you think my response would be compared to if I had been up for 3 hours?

 

I turn my A/C on, that chills me so i wake up a bit and i sing all the lyrics to all the songs that play through my ipod (I know them all)...

 

Sunflower seeds do it for me. I'll be putting them to the test driving up to Bellingham, Wa next month.

Sometimes il be so tired nothing can wake me up but im like...5 minutes away from home and i just push it. I know its stupid but it was late and the only person i was endangering was myself.

Ive had to pull over and pass out for a couple hours, Sometimes you just have to man.

 

Roll down the windows (if it's cold)
Blast music, and sing along at the top of my lungs
Not only does it keep me awake; but, it also gets hilarious reactions from people I'm driving past

where do you get the idea the only person you were endangering was yourself?
Unless you are in the desert or something.. that's not really possible.

If you really want to be technical.. a EMS responder who responds to your stupidity/accident could get in a wreck. But that is going to far.

 

Better to be somewhere late than not arrive at all.. Unless someone wants to argue that?
