This may be a dumb question, but did all 2005 + trd off road tacomas come with rear chrome bumpers? I ask because i just bought a 05 not long ago and mine came with a colored bumper painted the same color as the truck. Im not sure if that is original or not, just wondering.

I believe so. A prior owner may have painted it or swapped it for a color matched bumper off of a Sport.

off roads and sr5's (im 95% sure on the sr5's) get the chrome bumper that looks so out of place its not funny, sports get the color matched bumper, which is what im going to eventually get to on mine, and the base models, get a flat black bumper like the rock warrior tundras

So the sport package came with color matched rear bumper and the off road package came with chrome rear bumper?

I do believe the rear bumper was replaced because it and the bumper support had this yellow marking on it as if he got it from a salvage yard. Oh well, i kind of like the colored bumper more than the chrome.

anytime, more than likely what im going to do to mine, is go over to the body shop right around the corner from me, drop it off on a friday, and have them paint the bumper and front grill mag grey to match, the only chrome i like, would be a chrome tip! lol

Chrome tip would be nice, my taco didnt come with one unfortunately.

So this brings up a new question for me. When it comes to the grill, is it the same as the bumper? off road chrome grill, sport colored grill?

you could be right on that, but im looking on google images for sport grill and it comes up as color matched. seems like off road and sr5 maybe chrome only.

so i have another question, lol. I see some tacos have a silver under skid plate and others have a black skid plate. any idea you know which tacomas come with which color?

ah, ok, i wasnt sure on the grill for the sports, i thought they chrome for some odd reason, but yeah moose has that all right on the head for info now i read it, thats another thing id like to find, a scoop, the scoop adds like 50hp right!!!!! (sarcasm here) wish toyota put the scoop on the off roads, sports, and the tx pro, makes the truck look better in my opinion

Cut & broke off some stuff.
A few years ago, I think I remember a dealer in GA advertising a "special edition" that put color matched parts on SR5 and Off Road models. No doubt they charged a nice bit extra for that option. There was one dealer I remember seeing ads for in the 90s that would once in a while take a few vehicles aside, add accessories and some graphics, and then advertise them as having some special options package.

Maybe the previous owner put it on, maybe they paid extra for it up front. Hard to say.

and by the way, hood scoop only adds 10hp stock. You have to cut it open for the engine to breathe if you want 20hp from it.

The silver skid is a Toyota accessory. I'm pretty sure only the TX and Baja versions come with it standard.
Not sure about the dealer built special editions tho.

oh ok, well i stand corrected, i thought it was plastic, i know i would have found out in a few weeks once it warms up more, and the salt is off the roads and i go wax my truck that needs it badly
