This thread made me curious so I used their online builder to price a Pro-4X with similar options as my TRD Off-Road. Looks like Nissan charges $450 just for the Pro-4X bedside decals. Really??

Yeah I've never been a fan of the frontier, I had 2 old hardbody extra cabs back in the day those trucks were great I actually liked my 90 4cyl better than my 95v6 but 95 was the last year of Nissan truck I would own, I actually finally sold the 95 this year.

Having owned both, and only trading the Pro-4x because it was wrecked, I can honestly tell you the difference for me is just personal preference. Each has a few advantages but its all about what you LIKE. I can't find anything other than turning radius that my Tacoma does better on an every day basis. If I had to pick off road wise, I felt better in the Frontier, but I can't say it was better even though it had bigger tires. My dad has a Suzuki Equator RMZ, which is the same thing as a Pro-4x without leather and 'stuff,' and we are neck and neck on old logging roads and small trails here in WV.

I test drove both before I bought my tacoma last weekend. The Nissan has a lot to offer, and I wanted to seriously look at it based off of my wife's pathfinder. My wife's pathfinder was a 2003, and we put 160K miles on it. The only issues it had was one bad O2 sensor and the exhaust rusted out around 150K miles from road salt. All in all, a great car. The crazy thing about the frontier for me was that the interior felt just like the 03 pathfinder. The plastics were hard, and the overall quality of the interior felt a lot cheaper or lower scale. Additionaly, the ride quality was noticeably bouncier than the tacoma and just generally felt worse on speed bumps and rough roads. The PRO-4X has solid off road capability, and has some nice available features, such as the leather heated seats, sunroof, and backup sensors, but at then end of the day, it just felt more dated and lower quality. Despite the lack of high end creature comforts, I was willing to trade in my 2012 Jeep GC Overland for my Tacoma. I wasn't willing to do the same for the Nissan.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
Had several Nissan trucks ... 2004 Titan & 2006 was last Frontier (think those were the correct years) ... and both trucks were great.

IMO ... the Frontier ... with all the discounts that I see from time to time is really the best buy for the buck ... but with all that said ... I still like my Tacoma the best ... :D

I've driven both extensively and it comes down to this (IMHO):

The Nissan is way tighter (in a good way) and torquier (sp?) but also smaller inside.

The Toyota is a little better quality overall and will hold its value much better if you ever look at trading in or selling.

Both are great trucks. Doubt you'd regret either one.

Tacoma is better by far I mean they have had their flaws but over all you get better packages and options from the factory

X2. Not sure what you're talking about Feyded. There is little to no room in the rear. My wife sat in it for 10 seconds and it was a 'no go'.

x3. My girlfriends dad has a current gen Frontier and the rear seat room is a decent bit less. In fact he wanted to see my new Tacoma and I opened it up to show him the interior and he immediately opened up his Frontier that was parked next to me just to compare seat room, Tacoma wins.

I'm only 5'9" and the front seat room riding in his Frontier wasn't quite ideal either. Maybe its just me being used to 02 4Runner, 04 Tacoma, and my 13 Tacoma seating position, but I wasn't digging that vertical chair mashed up against the dash.

I looked at the 2013 Frontier Pro-4X before I got my Tacoma. For the same price, you get heated leather and a sunroof in the Pro-4X. But, I liked the Tacoma much more overall. Even though I got a TRD Sport, not the off road (I like the scoop and body color panels) I think it is just a better truck overall. Plus, I've always wanted a Tacoma.

Yep, I just went through the buying process myself. Drove the Frontier and yes, I liked that 270 horse motor, but it felt cheap. And walking around it, I think it looked cheap. And in similar trim it would have saved me only a possible 2,500.00. In the end the Tacoma was worth the money- looks, feel, resale, warranty and the dealer. The Nissan dealer was way too pushy. At the Toyota dealer I was test driving the truck within 5 minutes.

I looked at both the Frontier and Titan's before driving the Tacoma. The Frontier felt like it lacked power, coming from a full sized GM owner, but was pretty nimble and had a decent price point for what you got. The Titan was a beast, lots of bells and whistles, power, yet felt somewhat unrefined when taken on a test drive. It had a HUGE factory discount.

The first Tacoma I drove was a 6-spd manual and I immediately liked it better than the Frontier, and preferred it to the auto Tacoma. After 9years with a Silverado I liked the manual better, as comparing a full-sized V8 auto to either Frontier or Tacoma auto felt weird. No regrets so far. Glad to have a manual trans again.

I see a lot more Tacomas than Frontiers so I think most people prefer the benefits of the Tacoma nameplate over Nissan's.

Ive heard of major issues with the frontiers, so if you want your radiator to leak coolant into your tranny making it a grenade go nissan. I traded my black Tacoma for a gas guzzling Titan and disliked it. Nissans are not built like Toyotas hands down. I didnt hate my titan but the whole time I had it I wanted my Taco back and could not imagine driving a frontier.

This actually happened on our 1991 Pathfinder after 55K miles. :(

I test drove a Frontier, it had a great motor, but I got into that truck and said, "Hey, 1995 called and wanted it's interior back." Worse than looking dated it just looked and felt cheap. In the end I was happy to pay $3500 more for my similar equipped Tacoma.
