My first post....Proud owner of my first Toyota. Tacoma Double Cab Long Bed PreRunner seemed to be a natural upgrade from my 1998 Chevy S-10 Extended Cab. So far, I'm loving it. I have had the truck for just over a month, and just now realized that my 16" Alloy Wheels (optional for the SR5) are 6-Spoke, and not 5-Spoke as shown online or the Tacoma brochure. Did Toyota change the wheel design? Not that I'm disappointed, as I think they actually look better than the ones I've seen in photos. Thanks.

Wait... Those are 6 spoke as well. Are you saying you like those rims better than the ones on your truck?

The photo of the Access cab I found are 5 spoke (at least as I count them).

Do you all have 4 bangers by chance I think the I4 option changes the alloy wheels you get even with the SR5 package.

Used to see these on trucks ocassionally with the 4 cylinder engine [IMG]

These are the wheels I have on mine. I bought mine a week and a half ago and new wheels and tires are already on order.

I have the exact same wheels on my new 2013 Access cab PreRunner v6.

Toyota Option: "A1 16-Inch Alloy Wheel Upgrade"

I was not clear as well on what exactly the wheel upgrade would look like since toyota.com doesn't show them specifically.

    I think they look OK.

Spindifferent...so you have the same 6 spoke alloy wheels as I do? Im in Sugar Land, near Houston...My Tacoma was built in January 2013, sent to a dealer in San Antonio, and transferred to Conroe, where I purchased it.

My window sticker also read, "A1 16 inch Alloy Wheel Upgrade (Replaces factory wheels). It is listed under "Distributor Installed Options" (Distributor = Gulf States Toyota). Thinking back, it seems the salesman had me waiting a long time to do all the paperwork. Perhaps they were pulling the ole switch-a-rue on me. Why would they do that?

Yep. Same wheels, same sticker, same distributor, same factory. :) Since I couldn't find a picture of this option upgrade on the Toyota website, I really didn't know what to expect.

They appear to be 16" alloy wheels, so I'm OK with it. After we received the new truck, I actually went to a dealer lot near Austin, Tx to see what wheels were installed, and the trucks that had the same A1-16 inch Alloy Wheel Upgrade option had the same wheels as you and I.

Interesting...Thanks for the response. I am begining to feel a little better knowing there are others with the same wheels. I was beginning to think the dealer was trying to pull something. Perhaps it's Gulf States Toyota that is pulling the strings. I contacted TRDparts4u out of Dallas, apparently they are part of Toyota of Dallas. They sell those same wheels, and called them "Gulf States Accessory wheels". That doesn't explain why all the other Tacomas in my area have the 5-spoke 16" alloys. It just bugs me not knowing the whole story. I may try to contact GST myself. Thanks again. BTW, any pics of your truck?

FWIW, Gulf States Toyota has been doing its own thing--independent of the factory and other US distributors--for as long as I can remember. At least as far back as the early 1980s. They have their own options that they install and usually charge a proverbial arm and a leg for. This overpriced stuff never shows up in any factory documentation.

Toyotas here in Colorado come from the west coast thank goodness, and we don't have to put up with the foolishness dealt out by Gulf States.
