it looks funny when you have a mid-length gas system with a carbine length rail though.

    Finally finished my AR-15 build!

It ended differently than I expected. After months of searching for 16" Noveske N4 barrel, I finally found a 14.5" Noveske Stainless (Afghan) barrel with a special 1.9" (MILSPEC) gas block seat (they are customarily 1.0") - the MILSPEC gas block is critical for the Adam Arms piston system. So to follow all NFA rules, I found an Armorer to pin and weld my SureFire muzzle break to the 14.5" Noveske barrel. When I met him, he quickly started convincing me that I really didn't want to tie all of those expensive parts together forever. Instead, he offered to turn me a 16.1" barrel from a Krieger blank, until I could get a tax stamp for a SBR. What I didn't know (until he educated me) was that Krieger barrels are world class match barrels - their accuracy far exceeds my abilities [for now], but none the less, I succumbed to his logic. What he didn't know, was that just started another AR-15 build :) . Eventually, I will build another rifle around the Krieger barrel for precision distance shooting, and will swap to the Noveske 14.5" barrel in the current build for the intended 3-gun shooting. In an attempt to more fully utilize some of the capabilities of the Krieger barrel, I added a LaRue quick-detach scope mount to the build so I can switch between close-quarters (EOTech) and long-range (Leupold 4-12 x 40mm) shooting.

If you have whatever extra it costs than go for it. Our M4s and M16s don't have free float barrels but our SAMR's and whatever replaced them do have free float barrels.

has anyone heard of duck creek armory? i'm pretty tempted to buy one. $1300 and comes with a free float rail& leupold 3x9. they seem brand new to the market, but i've seen the owner himself commenting on forums for people having issues or doubts. seems promising. (lowers are sundevil)

    Hella operator.

Ill redo mine to 14.5 with a pinned mb and run a 16 in rail. Condo commando status.

In reality I got a 10" daniel defense lite on mine. I like it. It's not too far out there. I can mount my streamlight tlr-1 on the end and be able to reach it.

Alright maybe you guys can help me out...

So I decided to build an AR-15 since they now allow deer and antelope to be hunted with .223's in Wyoming (don't yell at me about that not being big enough, I know my calibers), and to be used for predator/varmint hunting.

    What I want:
-16 or 18" barrel (non-HBAR if possible for carrying reasons)
-1:8 is desired, 1:7 is ok too
-Be able to shoot 65gr (or higher) bullet accurately (so no 1:9")
    -A3 flattop upper
-Free float handguard, NO A2 front sight post

My buget (not including optics): around $800-900. I know it's a lot to ask, but I know it's possible. Even if I have to live with a clamshell A2 handguard/sight until I can convert it.

I also know parts are hard to come by, but I will be building in June or so. Hopefully it's better then. I would also be willing to buy a complete rifle, but I want to put my own furniture on it, so it would probably be better to buy a complete upper and build the lower.

So I guess my questions are, any recommendations on uppers? And is me being picky about the 1:8" twist understandable or should I just go 1:9". Also, do any of you have experience with medium-sized game with the AR platform, or any other recommendations for someone building their first AR for hunting/plinking?

And if anyone is selling one, PM me. Thanks guys.

I was just looking at them! Their setup for 1,300 that comes with a scope and bipod is a pretty good looking deal, but a bit out of my price range...

You can ask them for a quote without the scope and bipod and it'll be like 900

Here is my completed DMPS LR308B AR10 that I posted a while back.

Additions to the stock rifle include:

    - DPMS low profile gas block
    - DPMS rifle length handguard
    - Harris bipod (6-9" legs)
    - Geissele SSA 2 stage trigger
    - Mako Tactical SSR-25 Israeli Sniper Stock
    - Nightforce 3.5-15x56 NXS scope
    - Palmrest handgrip

At some point in the future I'll swap the 18" barrel for a 24", or maybe a complete upper swap. I did manage to shoot 1 MOA groups at 100 yards, and you can see the group at 200 yards below.

Bad ass stick.. Question though what made you go with a 56 mm objective as opposed to a 50mm objective... I know that the bigger the objective the more light it allows as well as increasing height over bore ratio but is there a big difference... ?? Between those two sizes?? I'm trying to decide if I should go 50mm objective or 56 mm objective oh and what reticle are you running on your NF??

    Thanks :infantry:

I would say that bigger is better, especially when getting into longer distances. That being said, I got a good deal on the scope second hand, so that made my decision pretty easy. The NF has the MOAR reticle. I did not adjust the elevation turret for the 200yd shots. I placed the first MOA hash on the point of aim and fired away. I could have clicked the scope up, but I wanted to try the hold over.
