Replace my shocks??

I have about 60K on my 2005 PreRunner. It is not 4WD and does not have a lift. I don't do any off roading. I may run the very occasional two-track. Most of my driving is on pavement, both highway and city driving. Should I look at replacing my shocks? If so which ones are good? I did a search and it seems a lot if not all of the responses/posts are related to 'leveling' or 'lifts'.

I would say get bilstein 5100's. They are great shocks. Better than the ones on the tacoma. Just dont set the front ones up to lift. Leave it at stock setting.

 

Honestly you shouldn't even be considering the need for new ones yet, not until around 100k or more I'd think. If you want them sure, but I'd hope they'd last longer than 60k, I've had old cars with 120k and the shocks were just starting to wear out.

 

I haven't noticed any change with the ride as of yet. It is a slightly stiff and occasionally bumpy ride but has been that way since I bought it. Any obvious way to check them other than noticing a change in the ride?

I'd be looking at Reflex shocks, from Monroe. I put them on my brand new F250 FX4 to replace those "Rancho off-road" shocks that came stock, Made the truck feel like a different vehicle. Either Billy's or Monroe Reflex/sensatrac's. But as stated above... 60k, depending on usage, should be fine still. all depends how you use it, i mean abuse it.

 

Thanks. I guess I'll look at them closer when I get underneath my truck to check to see if my motor mounts are for shit.

 

There are lots of people selling the Off Road and Sport Billys that came stock with their TRD's cause they're getting aftermarket shocks. Try some of those. I love my OR billy shocks. Makes the truck quite nimble and responsive.

 

get some king triple bypass in front and rears!
