Can anyone recommend a good program to make backup copies of DVD's that I own?
I have a few copyright protected DVD's that my DVD burner's software will not make copies of because they are copyright protected.
I promise that I am only trying to make backup copies of DVD's that I already own. :p

I use Dvd decrypter. It's free and most movies work, but sometimes they don't. For an Ipod touch or Iphone, I then convert using Videora which is also free.

I guess that I should have put this in my original post. My DVD burner came with Nero Express 7 Essentials. This program would not work.

Then use that along with DVDShrink. IIRC, DVDShrink decodes the DVD and then Nero burns them.

Where do you find the download for the DVD decrypter?

    http://www.imgburn.com/
pretty easy program to learn, works by burning image file to discs. i was using nero 8 and some of my movies burned backwards. i did 2 things to correct this. one was i started using imgburn and 2 i uninstalled nero 8 and went back to nero 7. no more backward movies.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
What OS are you running? It may make a difference in what options are available to you.. I assume some flavor of Windows?

I use a Mac, OS X 10.5, and can speak for those options here:

Ripit! Costs a bit of change but is super easy to use and does some copy protected DVDs.

Handbrake. I love this program and have yet to see any DVD it can't rip. And it's free.

OK, then once it is ripped you'll need something to package it back into a DVD.. both Roxio Toast Titanium 10 and DVD Remaster will do it from the file(s) Handbrake leaves you with.

In the end you'll have an archival backup copy of your DVDs, and can remove all the previews and adds and extra scenes, etc. And remove the damn region code too.

I do all this to all my DVDs.. but then I actually prefer to keep them as H.264 encoded files on my hard drive.. that way I can manage them in iTunes and throw them on an iPod or a PC connected TV.. woohoo!

Anyway, if you have a PC then I'll bet there is a way. The only one I could help you with is Linux. Yep... Handbrake works in Linux too. Maybe it works in Windows? I've never checked.

    Thats for dvddecrypter

For anykind of Ipod conversion formate
    http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/

When converting movies with videora they look like there in HD with my Ipod touch. The downside is they take a long time to convert, you can set up a few to convert then leave running all night and it shuts your computer down when done.

Best by far. And if you cant copy it, just wait a few days and there will be an update that will allow you to.
