I used to work for farmers in the total car division in college. Our rules were you could take anything we were not paying you for or you could replace with a usable part and not get extra in your settlement. This came up a lot with guys with custom wheels and tires. They cost $2000 but the ins company is only gonna give you $200 for them even if you bought and installed them yesterday. So guys would go buy junkyard wheels and tires to put on the wreck instead so they could keep their good stuff. If they try to tell you that you cant take the winch or other parts you want I would elevate the situation with your insurance company. I have seen guys from other companies,we were onsite at a yard with state farm, geico, and one other i can't remember, tell people they couldn't get their stuff for one reason or another and then take it themselves. Remember though once you accept a settlement you have no further recourse because you agreed to take the money offered for the vehicle including everything that was installed or inside it at the time.

 

Yeah I want my winch, ski racks, and cb out of it. I had stock wheels and they can have the tires, I don't know that the next thing I buy will fit those tires. Although getting my winch out might be a bitch.

 

I'm at work and my wife can't get the ski racks off or the winch out.
