I have been looking to buy a trailer and I do see a lot of fifth wheel out there. Has any one installed a fifth wheel hitch on their taco? I wonder if its worth it? Any comments? Or should I forget about the fifth wheel idea and get a regular travel trailer?

I don't think the Taco meets weight on a fifth wheel

x2. 5th wheel hitches are typically rated for trailers weighing in at more than 15,000 lbs. With the tow package these Tacomas are only rated to tow 6500 lbs.

Get a standard trailer and weight distribution hitch.

Apparently it is or recently has been pretty common to have a 5th wheel setup in the Toyota Hilux trucks in Great Britain. Maybe see if there is a "TacomaBritain.com" or its equivalent and ask there.

ETA: Google "Hilux 5th Wheel". Lots of results, including a British Hilux owner's group forum that would probably be a great source of info.

A Tacoma can hardly handle the weight of the hitch itself much less whatever the hell you plan to hook onto it.

Yeah...You shoulda got a Tundy if you want to pull something that comes on a 5th wheel.

You are probably limited to a 23-25 foot travel trailer that is hitch pull. 6500 lbs isn't a lot.

I don't think it is that crazy. Here is a 2600lb fiberglass 5th wheel camper that's pretty cool.

    Pretty much stock
i don't think they make those tow buddies anymore, they were coming apart causing accidents and the manufacturers got sued over it.

A 5th wheel / Gooseneck on a tacoma is not a bad idea as long as you stay within the towing capabilities. The tongue weight is centered over the axle and turning is greatly improved. There isn't a kit that i have found made in the US for the tacoma, but the concept is very simple and could be easily made with universal parts.

Facts: any of us who thinks a 2nd Gen Taco, a regular cab, 4x2, 4 banger, automatic no less, can't haul a 5th wheel successfully go here to disprove opinions:
