If it rained all night, how did the tent hold up? I'm curious if I can have any of the flaps open to let some breeze in during a rainstorm. Being in Florida, you can set your watch to them during the summer.

Well for the 18 hours or so that I had the tent set up it rained for about 16 hours. The tent did OK but I did end up with a lot of condensation inside in the morning, I think I had everything buttoned up too tight. The tent seams are taped and sealed but the rainfly is not so I'll be doing something to get that in better shape before the next trip and I'll probably throw a coat of water sealer on everything for good measure.

There are window/door openings on all four sides, all have a mesh zippered panel and a canvas zippered panel so you could partially unzip the two windows and get some ventilation as they are protected by the outside awnings.

Good morning MT Girl! (if this is your real name)
Be careful about putting more sealer on. You will get condensation when you have that long of moisture in the air. Next time crack the windows open a little. The more sealer you put on the more condensation you will get as your tent will not be able to breath. Did the tent leak at all? The main purpose of the fly is just to take the main hitting of the moisture snow/rain. I will get this in freezing weather when I'm snowmobiling. You would also get this in a canvas tent or a house if there was not enough heat to keep it dry. Have a great day!

To all of our Forum friends/customers:
Just wanted to say Thank You to everyone for making this another successful CVT Group Buy. We sold 84 tents this year which is 12 more than last year. It has taken a little bit to get all the paperweork together as there was shipping quotes that people wanted to get so their tents could be shipped with others. I know you all will enjoy our products as we do. As soon as we find out the landing date we will let everyone know as it is looking to be near the end of the month. Thanks again! Have a wonderful day! CVT

So no additional watersealer on the tent, gotcha...maybe on the rainfly though? The seams where the little pockets for the aluminum tubes/braces are sewn together were leaking and that was causing water to pool in the pockets and then eventually drip down onto the door flap.

The canvas walls held up well to the deluge and I did have everything zipped up tight so I'll try leaving a window partially unzipped next time and see how I fair. I usually don't end up camping in such bad weather but I guess its good to know the tent can take that kind of abuse just in case.

Not sure if you think its necessary but maybe it would be worthwhile to post a list of the group shipments - destination city and receiving person + additional names that will be arriving together. I hope everyone that wanted in on a group option forewarned the receiving person that their tent would be coming to them...I can see someone scratching their head wondering why they got an extra tent.

I am also curious about seam sealing the rainfly or spraying it with some watersealer.

Eh. I wouldn't bother. Fly isn't super covering anyways.

Fact is that it is still a tent..and tents aren't going to be amazing in super wet conditions. Just how it is.

BUT..you WILL be totally off the ground..so you won't wake up in a mud hole. And it'll still be a bit warmer then a ground tent in heavy rain.

I never had that problem in a heavy rain - I had the problem that it was coming down so fast that the water would pool and accumulate in the roof panel and then start seeping through. It's a function of the large flat roof - but it is easy enough to deal with. You just lift it up and the water runs off.

And yeah, it's a RTT. I'll trade those problems for this one any day :

But yeah, keep a couple windows a bit open for ventilation. Also, check the bottom of your mattress in the morning for condensation - you may need to make sure that dries out. I've had success abating that problem by putting a wool blanket under there.

That will help when it's below freezing, too - those aluminum panels are lightweight and strong, but not the best insulators around.

I love my CVT. I'm champing at the bit for the weather to get nice so I can use it some more.

Had a couple people ask about the rack I had made for the tent so here we go:

made out of 1-1/4" square tube steel with 1-1/2" angle at the base
main platform below the tent is about 4'x4' (about 3" narrower in width and 10" narrower in length than the bachelor/shasta tents)
vertical distance from the bedrail to the top of the platform is about 12"
overall height of my truck with the tent is about 6'4 (plenty of room to fit in my 7'garage door)
height from the ground to the tent when open is about 5'
