Part of the reason I run 18's lol. I had a car with Pirelli P-Zeros, and with no air pressure the sidewall didn't bulge.

Everything I've been reading says tires are supposed to be inflated to 75~80% of their max PSI for normal use. So running "E" tires at 40 PSI potentially causes the tires to heat up more. Kinda of like running P tires at 20 PSI all the time. Wish I could go to Nitto and try out several different tires. Right now the 275/65R18's are tempting.

I guess my previous question still stands... if it gashed through a D rated tire, there's no telling if an E rated tire would have survived. It wasn't the size of the rock that did it, I'm guessing it was a fairly sharp rock. KM2's are supposed to have a pretty good carcass. An E rated duratrac likely would not have survived either as they are known to have fairly thin sidewalls despite their high load range.

I'm switching to the KM2. I want something with a stiffer sidewall. I don't like how squishy my Duratracs are

Just buy a lift made for your truck. Instead of piecing on together.

The issue with a LT rate E range is that they are designed to be filled with 60-80 psi and have weight on them. Putting them on a baby truck is not practicle, they are very stiff and the tread will get to a point that it will have tread and will not wear anymore due to the weight issue. Get some 15's if you want big tires. Like a 33x12.5 or 35x12.5

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
Sorry, Terra Grappler A/T 275/65R18. :( POP! Like a fucking balloon.

I went back and forth on this one too when I was buying the tires. Here were my tire rules:
    1. How do they look?
    2. Do I really plan on spending that much time offroad?
    3. Are they wider than the wheel?
    4. What kind of wear (tire life) am I getting from this tire?
    5. Can I afford this shit?
and now added for next time...
    6. Is it an LT tire with a load range of "D" or better?

I know the sidewalls will be a lot stiffer with a D or E, but I don't plan on airing down below ~20psi anytime soon to go rock crawling. I'd much rather be able to hit a curb and not blow out a tire and ruin an aluminum wheel. If I was driving a 3/4 ton I wouldn't have a hesitation in the world to run an "E".

Right now the 305/60R18s are pretty much a 33x12.5 tire. My goal is to go from 305 to 285. It seems that if I want to keep the same height with 285, I will be forced to move to a LT tire. Or I keep the same height and move to an even thinner tire like 275 or 265. Also 15's and a lot of 16's don't fit 2nd gens.

I have Terra Grapplers now in the 305 size mentioned above. They've been good to me over the last 4 years. Nothing like a balloon. I don't see why the 275's would be any different. Neither the 305s I have now or the 275s are P rated, but they're aren't LT tires either.

Get tapatalk just cause it makes accessing the forum really easy via smartphone. I use photobucket along with the photobucket app for pictures. Makes it really easy, if you don't want them up anymore just remove them from photobucket.

It probably pooped cause he wheeled with to much psi in them. When u go to t stiff carcass it won't flex aired down. Best bet is buy tires from 4wd parts with the warranty. Its not typical to gash like that but its possible. With rims that big u lose lots of side wall and it will have less material to flex out of the way.
Edit: 4wp has a no questions asked warranty for a fee.
