Ah, u missed it a few pages back...or 50 given now fast this thread moves.

We went taco shopping for a couple of weeks (DCSB Baja and TRD) my payment would go up $100+/month, I would have to start a new loan (I have 4 years left on Tundy) and I would lose my 0% apr...so, we put some $$ into the house in upgrades....tires will be bought shortly after the lift or before.

My payment went up $100 for the Tundy but to go back I'd be paying an additional hundo...so finically, it wouldn't make much sense...then Carm will be on maternity leave for a couple of months and that'll reduce the income.

Right now you can get a DC 5.7l 4x4 Tundra for less than DC Baja Tacoma, new. I checked them out at Mountain States last week.

My girlfriend is in the process of picking up an '03 wagon. I personally love the 02-03 body style, but can't go wrong with a WRX wagon in general. Here's a good base check: http://flatironsrally.typepad.com/flatirons_tuning_project_/2006/03/flatirons_tunin.html

Some things to note: the EJ205 (2 liter engine in WRX's until '06) is a great engine, but tends to be ran a little harder than the EJ255 (2.5L in '06+) because it doesn't have much low end grunt. People tend to wind them up more often to get the torque they are looking for at higher rev's.

At 161kmi on the clock it will probably need struts in the near future if they haven't been replaced. You should check to see if this is a 2nd timing belt or just the first timing belt replacement. 150kmi before a timing belt replacement is kind of a long time in my opinion. The transmission on WRX's is a weak spot, but don't let the hard engagement in to first scare you, or the grind into reverse if it has that. Everyone says "all Subaru's have that", doesn't make it right, but by '04-'05 body styles I think they beefed up the transmission some.

A quick look at the down-pipe/up-pipe and engine bay can show you some dead give aways if the car has been modded and then brought back to stock. If the down/up pipes have heat shielding, it's a good bet that they are not modded. Seemingly useless empty bolt holes is a sign it may have been tinkered with. A lot of hoses in the engine bay might be replaced if it was modded, though at 161kmi they might have just been replaced because of age.

Overall if the car passes the regular pre-purchase inspection a normal car would, those are a few things specific to a WRX that we've found in our search for a WRX wagon. They are REALLY fun to drive, and that is part of their downfall as they tend to get beat on by people. If the seller can show a decent history of work completed, the car passes an inspection, and you believe the previous owner(s) took care of their WRX then I think it's definitely a great option for a daily driver.

Edit: Here's the one we're purchasing:
    [IMG][IMG]

We've been looking for about 6 months, scouring craigslist and the local dealerships. WRX wagons of all years are a hot commodity in CO. This particular wagon has a new .010" over 2.5 hybrid swap (2.5 STI short block w/ 2.0 heads), but other than that is completely stock minus the black tint. Good ones are out there, but it takes a pretty good amount of searching to find one that hasn't been beat on for under 10k, good luck!
