Yea, that one looks fine! I don't want to outshine the barrel though. I'll have to take my time and make sure I match the polish as best I can. To bad finals week just started. Got the finish off mine and did some sanding.

So I've had my 10/22 for about 15 years. Put 10's of thousands of rounds through it since I was a kid, and now my son has been shooting at the range. Despite stripping and cleaning it, it's gotten to the point where it will not reliably cycle the bolt, regardless of mag brand (Even using the factory Ruger 10 rounders). The inside of the receiver has considerable wear, but the bolt itself cleans up like new.

What parts should I look at replacing first that are long over their life expectancy?

Have you tried different brand of ammo? I've got a six digit gun (1969) that runs like a sewing machine. Who knows how rounds were put through it before I acquired it, but I've shot the shit out of it with out doing anything other than trigger parts. Maybe a spring kit from Wolff, and a bolt buffer. Does it extract when it does fire, I could see the extractor being worn, that and springs are bout it though.

Since we're on the topic of painting/finishing receivers, I have a question. My receiver is the All-Weather model (I put on a new barrel and stock), and I want to paint it. Do I have to Duracoat/Cerakote the receiver, or since it has that rough all-weather finish, can I just rattle-can it with Krylon/Rustoleum :anonymous: ? And if I don't like it, can I just sand it off?

normal spray paint will rub off a lot easier than if you were to do a dura/cera coat on it.

its however much work and time you wanna put into it ;)

Id try and replace the charging handle and spring, or just the spring if you want to save $$.

or go with a new bolt :D
    http://www.hawktecharms.com/Volquartsen-10-22-CNC-Machined-Bolt-Assembly-p/vc10blt.htm

a new extractor would not hurt
    http://www.hawktecharms.com/Power-Custom-10-22-Extractor-p/pc-10e-t.htm

    and a bolt buffer

All the receivers are the same, ones painted black, ones painted silver, unless your gun was manufactured before the mid 80's or so, then they were still anodized, in black and silver. Dura/Cera would be the very least I'd try, with a mil spec ano job preferred. I've had mixed results with Brownells Alumni-Hyde. Like Kevin said, rattle can will last about as long as it takes to apply.

What's it not doing? Loading or extracting?

If its not extracting get a new extractor. Volquartsen makes a good one

If its not loading id get a new spring

I assume you are using high velocity ammunition? no .22 auto will be reliable with match ammo. next, check the chamber. a burr from excessive dry firing will signifficantly slow down the bolt speed. also. be sure the chamber is clean. If you find that the chamber is dammaged, I have several factory take off barrels that have never been fired I can sell cheap.

I just picked up a brand new 10/22 this morning. And ordered a bunch of stuff for it this afternoon. I'll post up pictures as soon as it's all together.

Installed a KIDD charging handle, trigger spring kit, and Volquartsen mag release. Stripped the finish off the receiver and polished then clear coated it. Initially I took it to a very bright polish, but it stuck out to much against the scope mount and barrel. I took some scotch bright to it and gave it a more brushed, dull look to try to match those parts a bit more. How well it matches tends to depend on lighting. I'm not entirely worried about it, I just wanted it working for some ground squirrels this weekend.

You need to watch slickguns.com and gunbot.net for deals on ammo. I snagged 2100 rounds of Federal Champion in a nice ammo can for $120 yesterday.
