I honestly can't feel the long bed being a problem at all. The turning radius is so awesome on the taco that it really isn't noticeable when doing 3 point turns.

here you go....can't take credit for this, Marazzito, sent me this about two weeks ago...I had the same issue with length, other than looks...I had to order a short box because the long box would have barely fit in my garage.

    Cheers

I was at the auto show in NYC back in April and asked the Toyota guys why you couldn't get a long bed with a manual and none of them had any answer.......they wouldn't even guess.....they just said that sometimes Toyota makes strange decisions

I think a short box looks much better than a long box.

I disagree - especially once you get lifted and throw on some bigger meats the longbed really proportions everything out. I also remember a member once saying...." You'll have a more likely chance of regretting not getting a longer bed than wishing you had the shorter "...or something of the sort

Don't know any statistics, but I'll bet the SB sells better. It looks better.

Well I think i've seen ALOT more sb's on sale at the dealer than lb's. Alot of people dont have the patience to order a vehicle and wait a month or 2

I've seen more short beds than long beds around here, and honestly most people don't really seem to care about that. I think they're more interested in the ammenities and packages that the tacomas come with than what they'll carry in them in TX people drive trucks just to have them even if they don't ever plan on using them, and personally i think the long beds look better. Why because they don't look like they got kicked in the ass.

I have had both and have liked both for different reasons. Currently own a short bed because I wanted a TRD off-road. For whatever reason it seems to get better mileage than my Sport did in the longbox. Otherwise equiped the same. Less weight, better aerodynamics??? Go figure

I would bet that you didnt have a cover on either bed. The wind drag off the longer bed would kill that 1 or 2 mpg.

According to Mythbusters an open bed is the most efficient as it creates a vortex of air between the cab and tailgate that reduces drag. :D

Ok, so the mesh was best in their re-visit, but bed cover and tail gate up/down were the same so the cover shouldn't have helped.

I am long box guy. There was no way that I'd drive a that was bigger, heavier, and more expensive than my first Toyota Tacoma that could not carry as much.

Define "not carry as much".... The cargo capacity of the SB actually exceeds the LB due to lower curb weight so it can be loaded with more weight before maxing out the GVWR. :D

Personally, I could see a debate between a 5ft bed and an 8ft bed one a truck the 1000lbs more cargo capacity, but when it's between a 5ft and a 6ft with lower cargo capacity.... I'll just stack things higher, strap them down, and haul heavier loads with my SB. Any lumber or drywall I need will hang off the back of either. Aside from bikes and ATVs I don't see much of a point, especially when trailers are safer and easier to load.

without even looking at the rest of the thread. How many times have you been loaded a bunch of crap in your truck and said "man, I wish I had shorter bed."
