I have one coming in Late August/ Early September.

How do the car seats that come with the strollers fit?

 

I have a DCLB and am also expecting twins in late July. I am 6'2'' and have been worrying about my leg room. I tried the ones that snap into a stroller. They fit ok, I could work it out. Ill have to try the Dion. Thanks for the suggestions.

 

OP, why don't you want a carrier that clips in? We had a baby last January and I couldn't imagine not having one I could just snap in.

Make sure to add that if they are using the LATCH system to install the seat, they will only be able to put it outboard, and not in the center seating position. Toyota does not allow use of LATCH in the center position in most Tacomas, so they would have to do a seat belt install which is perfectly fine too. They can always check the vehicle manual to be sure.


Car-seat.org is a great resource where they could post a question about seats in a specific vehicle too.

Hi, I'm a Child Passenger Safety Technician (Carseat tech, like pp daughter) and help parents to get carseats in correctly. I'm also a tech on car-seat.org, essentially same username. I also have an 06 DC that I have had the pleasure of putting all different kinds of carseats in both rearfacing and forward facing.

A couple points I'd like to first make is that if you use LATCH (the clips) you can only use them on the outboard seating positions, you can not borrow anchors from outboard for a center install - Toyota forbids it. Also, you can't use both LATCH and the seatbelt to install a carseat - it doesn't make it safer, it infact the carseat manufacture forbids this too.

So OP, a convetable that fits in the back of DC that fits newborn twins well (they come out tiny - usually 5-6lbs) and doesn't having you or mom eating the dash or steering wheel would be the Combi Corroco, Cosco Apt40 and the Maxi Cosi Pria with the TinyFit insert. The other seats mentioned like the Diono Radians, Britax, Recaro or Safety First Complete air are not likely to fit tiny newborns at all, even though the box might say 5#, the straps are way to high for a newborn. Straps rear facing must come at or below the infant's shoulders. Britax has an infant insert and Diono Radians have addional padding that allow average sized singleton newborns to just fit, but not for multiples.

Have you looked at infant seats (the ones that click in the base) yet? There are a few that might fit - In additon to the Cybex Anton, the Chicco Keyfit has the shortest front to back span (giving the passenger in front the most room) and fits tiny babies very well. The Safety 1st Onboard35/Air35 and Britax B-Safe also fits tinys well and doesnt take up much space either. A nice thing about these infant seats is that the bases don't flare so it is easy to install them next to each other without compromising safety. So if mom is a little shorter, then you could have kids passenger and center installed with the seatbelts.

I didn't know you couldn't put it in the middle seat looks like gracie gets to sit behind mommy from now on when she rides in my truck.

You can install carseats in the middle seat, just not with LATCH. You use the seatbelt to install the carseat. It is not difficult, and you actually have to install with the seatbelt according to the limits set by the carseat manufacturer. Most carseats state a 40lb (weight of the child) LATCH limit. It will be in your carseat manual in the warnings section.
