Hey I posted this in the moab trail section, but I really need help asap here

my friend that was driving from indiana to moab today is in missouri right now and not sure whether or not to continue the drive, all because of moab weather report for the next few days. He's driving an 04 4x4 with at tires and he's bringing another guy who might be in a less capable land cruiser but i've never seen it.

Can anyone reassure me so i can reassure him that we'll be able to have a good time in moab despite this?

Weather comes in fast in MOAB and it goes away a lot like Colorado. I cant assure you that you will have a good time, but anything is better than working. :) Just stick to areas that your vehicles can handle, recoveries down there are pricey.

I've never been to Moab, but I can guarantee from what I've heard that he will have a great time. That weather forecast isn't that bad, if anything it will keep it cooler and more pleasant while he is there. If he turns around, he will regret it.

you can also explore the south end of the area down by monument valley which may see less of the storm possibility..

by the looks of it, its rotation is north and the tail end of the moisture ends at the bottom of utah...

so if it's crappy...head south to monument

so some quick research on things to do down there as an alternative...moab's amazing, but there's endless possibilities to explore down there

Nice. Another thing to note - All of the forcasts are for "slight chance" or "chance" with none being over a 40% chance. So on the worst of days, you've still got a 60% chance that all you see is some clouds.

Desert storms are typically like the mountain storms. They're quick in and quick out. They have maybe one storm every few years that will actually last a full day, but that is extremely rare.

I would not go exploring any slot canyons in the area due to a higher chance of flash flooding.

    ^THIS

even after the rain has left and even days after a storm, flash floods can occur in canyons, so be careful and always have an escape route where ever you are if you're in the canyons

We were down there once and managed to catch a flash flood right in front of the entrance to Arches National Park.

Omfg it was freaking sweet. It looked like lava. One of the coolest experiences I've ever had. I'd love to see one shoot off one of the cliffs though.

Was planning on doing some camping/exploring near Gypsum Hill. 100's miles of trails just north of Gypsum, CO. Pretty sweet spot, BLM land.

BUT, I think the weather is going to cancel that plan. Supposed to snow all week here. Gypsum will probably get rain. :(

I'm game for going somewhere else, really wanted to do some camping though.

yeah, I've got some painting to do as well. Took a short cut when painting the sliders using a paint+primer in one. That didn't work at all and now looks like complete crap. Gotta scrape some rust off and do it right.
