Speaker Decision Help

Not sure which speaker setup to go with throughout the truck.. Debating between Alpine Type R, JL Audio VR, or JL Audio TR. Does anyone have either system setup and what are your thoughts? I'm looking to have some decent bass since I refuse to use a sub. They will be powered by an amp(model unsure) and the head unit is a Kenwood DDX-512. I'm even open to suggestion for other brands. Thanks

go with 6x9's for some bass for sure, and all those are well made speakers its just a matter of which ones u like best

 

Eeeek! At least one of the two evils has been shut down ( Circuit City)

 

6x9's and tweeters in from with 6 1/2's in the rear.Not sure if there is a difference in clarity or distortion.

 

i liked Circuit shitty for some things tho and now theres no competition for best buy

 

i hear that the 6 1/2s have better clarity but if no sub your going to want the bass a 6x9 provides

 

Online is best buy's biggest threat.. I will be getting most of the equiptment from sonicelectronix.com

 

idk.. im not a sterio system guy.. but i know Best Buy has the whole car audio section

 

ive dealt with them and had no probs, i enjoy using Amazon brings a bunch of them together and creates a little more safety i feel, i just did my system with 6.5 boston components up front with rockford power series 6.5 2 way in the rear had a pioneer gm amp but sent it back, had white noise, plan on getting the pioneer prs 4 channel

 

Haven't decided on the amp yet, prob JL G4500

 

alpine type r's are not that great. go with JL

 

I have had nothing but issues with sonicelectronix for the past two times I've ordered.

I am STILL waiting for stuff I ordered on the 4th and it's still not shipped yet. All items were shown to be in stock and they never bothered to let me know that one of the items went backorder and they were holding the shipment until it came it. They have no idea when it's coming in and it took ME calling them to find this out. Again, no communication from them at all telling me this. Of course, they charged my card almost immediatly though. I am about to pull the plug on them and cancel.

God forbid if you have to return something to them as well...it took me a month to finally get what I needed. Again...just bad experiences and now two in a row with them....beware.

You might as well ask which oil is better.

You can take any one of the quality speakers out there and install them, but it's all about YOUR ears and what sounds good to you. Install will play a larger role in how they sound compared to the minor differences in the brands. Your listening preference dictates what you like.

IMO, go with a 6X9 component set for solid bass and a 6.5 coaxial out back with a modest amp and you'll be fine. Pick a brand...it won't matter that much for what you are doing. Ask ten peeps what is the best...damn near get 10 different answers.

 

i like pioneer 3 or 4 way 6x9s, great sound for a fair cost

 

Heard them in person, so I decided on JL VR series powered by JL G4500 amp. Thanks for the input.

 

JL VR series are awesome... but for far less costwise you can get the TR series, which sounds great. I used to run a set in two of my vehicles, and currently have a pair in my Taco. Don't invest in anything 3 way..... especially JL 3 way components. Your ears will hurt if you put any power through them, they're extremely unbalanced and have too much tweet to them.

I'm assuming you know this much though, you're looking at the VR series which are for more extreme audiophiles, the average user probably wont hear a difference unless you're comparing them side by side.


I will never invest in a single pair of 6x9's ever again.

 

I suggest you go listen to some speakers at a local car audio shop. If you like them, buy them. Everyones ears and listening preference is different. I prefer round speaker > oval. I run all JL Audio 6.5 XR components front and rear. Most will suggest components up front and coax in the rear. Basically front staging is best. Kinda like going to a concert like. All the speakers are up front. Some will suggest front only and ditch the rear. You can get away w/o running an amp to components but its a whole different ball park when they have an external amp powering them. As far as coax...you can run those with the stock deck and be fine. Basically it comes down to budget and what your ears like and go from there.

 

I didn't feel they were THAT expensive, the 6x9's were 170, 6.5's 90, and tweeter 70. Amp was 259. All came with free shipping. I have high expectations for this setup.
