Previous owner used to haul heavy loads, so he put an AAL on it and TRD front suspension with a lift and custom rear suspension for added weight capacity. I recently installed a tow package (Curt with lifetime warranty) So i will definitely see what this thing can handle as far as weight goes.
I run pennzoil platinum, I do 90% city driving. Lots of stop and go. Lots of speeding up and slowing down due to there being a shit load of different speed limits in the city I live in. I also shift early and the motor is under significant load. Should I change my oil early? I was planning on changing it at around 3000 due to the amount of stress I put on the oil. Short trips are also another thing I do, I live right up the street from a lot of my destinations. When I do, I try to warm it up completely to burn off any moisture. So should I change my oil early?

When it comes to my motor, personally I like the peace of mind that my motor gets the best that's out there. Especially because I plan on putting 200,000 + on my truck, I wanna keep the motor at its tip top for as long as possible. Everybody is different, my dads a 25 year ASE certified master mechanic and he uses conventional too.

i like to think any good name brand (valvoline, penn, amsoil, rp, etc etc list goes on) will get the job done as long as changed at recommended intervals.

i wouldnt put your local gas station oil in it thats 6 quarts for 5 dollars made by joe dirt, but imo anything name brand is good enough, synthetic or not.

    just my opinion

I see lots of posts of people driving synthetic 10,000 miles. But they drive lots of highway. I rarely do. So I figured i'd cut that in half and change at 5,000. Opinions?

I agree completely. The main thing I am wondering is oil change intervals for high class full synthetic's running 90% of the time in the city.

Change your oil, if you have the funds do it every month or 3k. Change it after the first 1K and every 3-5k.

Every month? I don't drive thaaat much. From what I was taught it was 3 months or every 3k. But that's with conventional. Synthetic is sopposed to last longer. How much longer is what I am wondering. Especially due to the stop and go my truck is driving.

Any quality conventional oil will last 5000 miles or 6 months and it doesn't matter that you're doing 90% city driving. They'll all last.

I changed my factory fill oil at 1100 miles and am using Amsoil XL. I prefer to use synthetics considering it doesn't cost that much more. Use what you want and feel secure about it. They'll all last.
