I would have to disagree with you, I have put thousands of rounds through my kimber and had zero problems. I've been flamed on here for saying this before so it doesn't matter to me if you think I'm full of it, just telling people what my experience is with my gun. Also everyone I know who has a newer kimber hasn't had any issues.

Kimber got a bit of a reputation around 2008-2009. Not sure where it came from, other than the fact that the fitment was a bit "snug" and they needed some breaking in before they could be considered truly reliable.
Seems in 2010, this changed and they were much smoother after that.

I've never heard of anything "breaking"... certainly no "kabooms"
They may not be the best 1911 on the market, but IMHO, they don't deserve to be tagged "garbage".

    Quality and performance.
After I bought the M&P, I noticed the trigger was very hard. So much that I could not shoot straight. It was shooting down because of the amount of pressure applied to the trigger. I called the customer service and they said shoot 500 to 1000 rounds and it will smooth out! This was when ammo was expensive. I was mad. A quality pistol must operate properly in the first place! Why do I need to shoot so many rounds for the trigger mechanism to smooth out.
I asked them to send it back so they can smooth out the trigger but the customer service (or disservice!!) guy said that is considered performance upgrade and they want $150 to do it! Can you believe this?
Anyway, I needed the gun ASAP so I gave in and overnighted it to SW so they can do this so called performance upgrade.
After the upgrade, the gun worked just fine but this whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Then it misfired two to three time in the range and that pushed me over the line to get a different handgun. I realize the misfiring could have been caused by a defective ammo but I decided to get rid of the gun and get a dual action handgun so I have the chance to pull the trigger again in the case of misfire or hand cock the hammer and so on.

The HK was perfect out of the box. It shot straight and the trigger was smooth from the get go. I also liked some of the other features like different size back straps, more natural de-cocker location (next to the hammer) and ambidextrous slider release.

Anyway, long story short, I don't like low quality product. So much that if I cannot effort a new good quality product, I'll buy it used so I don't have to deal deal with a bad quality. To me, the M&P was a low quality product and worse than that was the SW's customer service.

you should have bought an APEX tactical kit for the M&P and you would have had the sweetest trigger you can pretty much get on a striker fired pistol...

I hear you but doesn't a gun must operate normally in the first place? I know you can get a kit to make the trigger more sensitive or reduce the travel but a trigger that I have to pull hard (as suppose to squeeze) so much to fire is not acceptable either.

I just bought a M and P compact 9. Love it and smith sent me a pinky ext for free just for calling and asking. Had it in 2 1/2 days. Also had a revolver worked on and turn around was a little over a week. They have awsome service to me. My glock 26 just hit the road!

I've fired over 5,000 rounds through my M&P and have never had a weapon related malfunction. I like the fact that it is striker fired so there is no need for a decocking lever. The trigger on the M&P is supposed to be a little stiffer because it is meant for law enforcement use where the last thing you want is an unintentional discharge because the trigger was pulled too easily. Our pistols fail the annual inspection if the pull is less than 4.5lbs. My only complaint with the M&P is the seer reset feel is a little dull.

I'm not saying anything bad at all about the HK and I'm sure you'll love it as they are superb weapons, I'm just defending the M&P based on my experience as a shooter and an armorer.
