I think I heard that it's because they have agreements with the National Forest Service or something that specifies opening/closing dates.
A-Basin and Loveland own their land and open and close when they want I think. I seem to remember years and years ago A-Basin having a run or two open July 4th.

 

its crazy how theres 8" in foco and its barely snowing in denver. not looking forward to the drive after work

 

mountains can get extensions on their leases but it's never economically just for them to open up later...all visitors would have passes most likely which means minimal income inflow to cover the overhead that they will incur..

just annoying to see that...happens more often than not it seems

 

Yeah, we got 8" of snow in Steamboat the night after the montain closes.

Anyone know much about the Dunlop fierce MT. Or the BFG KM2 TA MT?

 

I have the KM2 MT, I think that is what you are asking about. I have only had them for a short time but I like them. Did great on the light wheeling trip I did so far and they handled great on the drive in to work today and there was already 3-4" of snow on the ground. I have not heard great things about their performance on icy roads, but I have not had any issue yet. I drove with them on packed snowy roads in Red Feather, but it was dirt road underneath so I don't know if that makes much of a difference.

I had the Cooper Discoverer STT's on my runner and absolutely loved em. The only downside is that the rubber was a pretty hard compound so they weren't very sticky or grippy off-road. However, that was part of the plan because the treadlife was a lot better for a daily driver and pavement driving.

 

I've never bought the same tire twice yet. I like to try new things. I can get 4 new $700 for the coopers.
