none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
Wow. Kind of hard to tell in the video. I remember me and dad used to have target practice with his musket rifle and whatever you'd hit would pretty much disintegrate. Apparently that's one of the reasons civil war soldiers would get their limbs amputated frequently because if you got hit, it would shatter the bones.

Anyhow, gettin back to Vacuums, My Grandad had a cool vacuum cleaner called an Electrolux. It was a canister and it did 2 cool things. First, if the bag was full it would automatically eject the sealed bag. Secondly, it had one of those reel type cords so when you let it go it whipped back into the canister. As a kid I thought that was awesome. If I ever find one of those, that's going to be my new vaccum.

Ha, I used to borrow my aunt's Kirby (circa 1950). All steel with a bakelite handle and a plug that screamed "DANGER WILL ROBINSON!" Almost took two hands to push around.

More interesting with some slow moving pheasant rounds. I had the opportunity to shoot an RV door one day with my 12g. at ~10 feet.
With buckshot, you create a very clean hole that you can stick your thumb through.
With buckshot, you create 4 smaller holes.
With the pheasant rounds, you create a ripped up nasty peeled back hole that you can stick your head through. :D

Simplicity, current Electrolux, and Miele all have the cord thing. Miele has an indicator to tell you how full the bag is.

Thanks for the Consumer Reports, I'll look it over!

After lots of debating I decided on a Simplicity Synchrony Premium. Tested it against a Dyson and a Miele, also compared a Sebo XL Auto.

The performance was pretty obvious. The guy tossed down some sample 'dirt and debris'. I used the Dyson and it took a few passes for each 'row'. The Miele took two. The Simplicity took one, and before I even got over the top of the dirt, it was being drawn toward the vacuum.
Simplicity also had a good lot of metal parts, manual height adjustment (Sebo had electronic automatic that took FOREVER to adjust), routed the suction AWAY from the tool hose when not in use (better suction power that way), and had the ability to turn off the brush roll.

I wish it had a speed adjustment, but otherwise this thing is awesome.

That thing looks awesome, but I don't know if I could shell out over $900.00 for a vaccuum.

I've had a Simplicity for years. Good sweeper. Light and powerful, easy to get parts for.
The maid uses it mostly. I had to repair the cord a few times but other than that it's solid.

:eek::eek: Better than 9 bills, but... I had a real rough time spending 400 on my dyson. Paying for a new sweeper is much better than paying for new carpets though.

Let us know the long term effectiveness.

I learned from my last vacuum that I don't want to buy another until I RETIRE.

That was $630 after the sale price (Originally $700 there, found it at some other shops for $850). The salesman was technically supposed to sell me a display model, but either goofed up or cut me a deal. Also got an extra year of warranty, a free first servicing, and a handful of bags (small potatoes, but worth a few bucks).

The Dyson I was comparing was something like $530-$560, and like I said couldn't hold a candle to the Simplicity's twin engine powah. Metal parts on the Simplicity, and I like a bagged vacuum.

I know you mentioned you hate bagless....

I went through this a while back. I had one vacuum cleaner - an ancient Phantom - that's been used for sooo many things in the garage, house, and basement. It was time to get another vacuum strictly for the house. The Phantom still runs...amazing.

I refuse to spend more than $300 on any vacuum cleaner regardless of what brand/type it is. I ended up buying a new Dyson off ebay for like $250/free shipping. It's a red 'Target' model. Apparently these were cheap at the Target stores and people bought 'em up.

If you search ebay for Dysons - just be careful. There are tons of 'em on there and a lot of them are factory refurbished, factory serviced, demo models, etc. I'd definately search for NEW.

kirby is the best...can get it around 1200 or less but it will last you the rest of your life.....is a lil heavier but the new ones have a drive system so it's easy to push around...i have one...kirby sentria...other than that i would get a dyson from wal mart for 300 bucks...i had a cheap vacuum for like 100 bucks from wal mart...dirt devil one...the kirby salesman put some salt on the carpet and vacummed it with the dirt devil....then he went over it with the kirby and it was like the dirt devil one didn't even work......so i had to get it....i vacuumed my whole house and it filled up the bag from all the dirt left behind by the cheap vacuum...lol....you wouldn't believe it.....just one time vacuuming with the kirby.....after i got all that up the bags last like 6months to a year now before they get full...those cheap vacuums barely work at all...the kirby sucks it all up

I had thought about a Kirby, but dragging that metal beast up and down narrow stairs wasn't attractive, even for the price.

As I said, I compared the Dyson to my Simplicity, and the results are kind of like comparing a domestic vehicle to a Toyota. ;)
