Haha. Toyota should just pony up for a filter relocation kit for all the 2.7's

 

I loved the filter in my car. Right side of the block, right below the valve cover. Easily accessed for the engine bay. Plus it was a canister. Just unscrew the cap, pull old canister out, drop new in, replace cap, done. No mess, super easy.

I have a trick to do mine. Cut the wheel entirely then the 10mm bolt that holds the brake line down relocate it 5" towards the front of the truck. There's a empty hole. Then you can access it but still a pain.

 

Yea those cobalts and newer cavs are easy. I don't like canisters pain in the ass with O-Rings.

 

At least you have access to a lift. I need to buy or build some ramps

I used to just stand on top of the tire and lean into the engine bay. I did that for a couple years. Twist twist twist, oil all over the garage floor... The I finally got the oil filter relocation kit installed on the inside of the frame rail.

In hind sight, all that spilled motor oil probably kept the rust away from the front end. Assholes should have put oil filters along the whole frame!

 

I can't tell you how many times I've done that with the Toyota filter as well. I've never gotten one off in good condition. Once, I had to jamb a screw driver through the whole thing and twist it off that way.

 

Fram for life!

Another bonus to relocating the filter on the 2.7 is that you can run a bigger filter. Bigger is always better, right?

 

Fram sucks. Have you seen the comparison on here where they cut open all the different oil filters?

 

No, I didn't But I've also never had to tear a Fram apart to get it off.

True, but that shouldn't be your measurement of a good filter... I won't touch Fram after seeing several independent filter comparisons. Fram is always at the bottom of the barrel. So, for the extra protection for my engine, I'll stick with Toyota filters and suffer through a few extra 4 letter words when the time comes to change the oil

I've never had to tear any oil filters off. You guys do put alittle oil on the oring before putting the new one on right?

 

True, but the relocation kit allowed me to run a lot larger filter... more surface area, etc. The dealership is running OEM on my 2011 now, and I'll do some more research before I start doing them again myself.
