    LOL. Also VR6 is technically closer to an inline engine rather than V6. VR6 cylinders are at 15 degree angle while the traditional Vee cylinder is at 45, 60, or 90 degree

    The new one is a 3.2 I believe.


    Yea i read that the other day, basically from what I have learned, to increase performance in the engine I have to go learn about the new vr6 engine and take mods from that.

    I was talking resting voltage. I checked it again tonight and it was still at 12.66. There is a tiny amount of drain from two sources. The Toyota alarm and also a single, small led light on the switch that powers my LF 170s. It has "rested" for several weeks before without impacting its ability to start. I'm thinking the battery is fine, mostly curious about what others were seeing from theirs.

    I'm pretty sure my battery is OK. What prompted this is last weekend I was playing around with my ARB compressor. I had used it several times before out on the trail but never in my driveway. I turned it on to add air to one tire and it faltered. It started and stopped and started and then stopped and it wasn't because the little tank was full. I tried to put air into the tire, nothing, yet the switch was on. :eek:

    Turns out I had blown both fuses, yes two of them. Its a dual comp, so each comp has its own fuse. They are big suckers, 40 amp Max type. I thought this was rather curious as It had run fine before and is basically still brand new.

    So this past Saturday at truckfest I had the opportunity to talk with the local ARB rep about what happened. He felt it happened because of the power connection to the battery. He said a poor connection could cause it. I asked if 12.5 volts was too low, he said the engine should be running for these.

    So yesterday I rechecked all the connections (they were fine) and I replaced the fuses (expensive fuckers) and tried it all again only this time I did it with the engine running. Compressors worked perfectly...

    I am thinking that it requires 14 volts to run these. :eek:

    Anyway, this incident made me wonder what the state of the battery was when not running. It is not a big deal to have the engine running when airing up. I had just never seen anything written that said it had to be that way. I hope this is the end of my fuse drama. I will carry extras from now on but these are expensive and a challange to find locally. Autozone and O'rielly's get $3 and $3.30 each for them.

    I was wondering this too. No way a battery by itself will ever be more than 12.8.

    edit: just realized you said amps, not volts. I don't think the issue was lack of amps. The battery can deliver hundreds of amps. No, pretty sure the issue was voltage.

    Haha dude just leave it as is. Put some exhaust and maybe an intake on it. But leave it at that if you want it as a reliable dd.

    Would got a car that was turboed to begin with

    Well I guess now you know you have to run the truck. That kinda sucks..not horrible I guess. But not what I'd want.

    Batteries are typically 12V or somewhere close to that. A battery will not charge unless you are applying more voltage to it that it is rated for. That is why alternators run at about 14.5V.

    I have used my air compressor to blow out my air filter with the engine off several times and it has done that just fine. Mine is only half what yours is though.

    Well shit. I'm a little gun shy now. I guess I'll scrounge up some more fuses just in case and try it again with the engine off. Having to run the engine is not a show stopper but not ideal either.

    Are you sure you have the same compressor? Does yours use that same fuse?

    I just went and checked and my single fuse is a 40 amp fuse that is pretty big. So I imagine it is the same fuse that you run two of.
    Mine is loud now too! The Y-pipe is banging off the rear skid pretty much all the time now. I need to take that skid off and figure out if I bent it or broke an exhaust hanger or what.

Cuz I think Mike is on to something with the not enough voltage. Objects use power which is volts x amps. So one goes down the other has to go up to meet the power needs. In Mikes case volts were low so amps increased, apparently enough to pop the 40 fuses.
