I always do, I cover the gasket pretty liberally and fill the filter before putting it on the truck. I just got in the habit of not even trying, I just get out the channel locks and go to town. I have a filter wrench but it's useless.

Larger filter doesn't matter if the bypass is just a cheap, flimsy piece and it's just letting the oil ride right through. Also, if the filter media is junk, the filter size isn't helping you.

Side note, just got my truck aligned yesterday and what a difference! It's like night and day. I seriously thought something was wrong with my front end but it was just that far out of spec. They got me to 0 toe, .09 camber both sides and 2.4 caster both sides. Truck rides like a dream! :yay:

That's funny Dave..but isn't that how it goes right..

No, I'm lifted a little. I've got Eibach coils up front and the Icon 3-leaf AAL for the rear. Overall lift is about 1.5".

Are you reefing on the new filters? Snug is good, Guddentight might be overkill.

I was just reading that the Fram x2 is pretty much their only good filter. Two layers of filter material backed by a screen mesh to support it, good construction, etc. Doesn't matter anymore, I'll be running OEM for awhile anyway.

I follow the instructions on the box. I think they say spin on until the rubber gasket first touches, then tighten 3/4 turn past that. I can get the 3/4 turn just by using my hands, using my thumb as a marker so I know when I hit the 3/4 turn. I never use any tools to tighten my filters on.

That's just odd you have to fight to get them off. I can only remember a couple instances where I had to get the filter wrench out to help break the filter free.

I bought one of these so I crush the filter every time:

I'm short so I have a hard time with the angle of the filter.

    Hey Mike
Where did you get it aligned at? Was it Firestone? Sorry if it was mentioned above. I didn't read back. I am at work. My caster is still in the negative. I Need to hit up a dif Firestone for better techs.

You need one of these. Soo much easier than a normal wrench.

I bought it to change the oil on my bike but use it for the truck now.

I went to Ira Toyota in Milford. This time, they did a great job but I wouldn't say they are overly exceptional. They aligned my truck last year, took them 2 hours, and they didn't tighten the LCA bolts so I had a nasty clunk going on. Took it back, they re-aligned it and torqued everything down properly. Both times took them 2 hours each. This time, the techs did an awesome job, 1.5 hours and they did the spiral cable recall. But the service rep blew it because my truck sat out front for 45 minutes before he gave me my keys back. Then, after I paid, I was walking out and realized they didn't even attach the alignment report. I had to wait another 15 minutes to get that (should be attached automatically IMO, not something you should have to ask for). When I went in, I was very clear with the service rep what I would accept and what I expected. I told him about their screw up last time and that if they did that again, I would not be back since it is downright dangerous to leave the LCA bolts loose like they did.

So, I'd go to them again but you really have to get on their case to make sure they get it right.

Ira in Milford is about 5 minutes from my place. Never went there for service, I've gotten a few parts for my 92 there though.

No room for the ratchet to move and no leverage to make it move. I use the claw wrench.

Meh, for a dealership, they're ok... I wouldn't go there for parts though. I buy my OEM parts online. The local guys rape you on parts, Ira included. I bought parts through Camelback Toyota online and they were, on average 35% cheaper than Ira and that includes shipping to my door.

Good to know. Thanks for the heads up. I needed parts quick while replacing the leafs in my 92. Had to cut most of the original hardware off, and only had 2days to finish
