Can't say I'm surprised. Everyone up top said they were really trying to fight it and let the CRSP do it's job...but I think whether the budget stayed the same or went down it was going there eventually. That's a pretty big red flag for CRSP anyway though, isn't it?

I'm curious to know what this is all about. I don't have a CG background. Marine Corps doesn't have a tenure, at least I never heard of it.

I know we have some members that were in when they did it back in the 90's that can give you a better answer but it basically sets max time frames for each pay grade. E1/2 no advancement by the end of their initial contract, E4/5 7 years Coast Guard time/10 years total military, E6 20 years etc. by 2015.

OP-Just curious, how long have you been in?

The Navy is very strict about HYT. People get kicked out all the time for it, no waivers get acceptdd for it. Better study and do better on the exams ladies.

I've yet to hear any bitching about it but I'm sure it will come. Just had an E5 make E6 after 17 years and now he's trying to bust his ass to make E7 before 20 years. Funny how that happens.

I am interested to hear from someone who was in when it happened last time and what the differences were. My recruiter said they damn near cleared the whole top half of the enlisted ranks and ended up with supervisors severely lacking proper leadership skills when advancements opened up.

I agree, havent heard anything yet, but it's coming. The other angle to consider is when it's time for re-enlistment, will a BM1 who made it early in their career suffer for not taking an OIC review board even if they're at say the 12-15 year mark? No guarantees that just because you are a certain paygrade that you are "good to go" for the time in service guidelines.

It should rid the service of the types who are 'comfortable' and not performing to the standard. We'll see how it pans out though. Lots of waivers to sift through I'm sure!

If they keep the CRSP like that article says they are I'd venture a guess plenty of waivers and plenty of denials. Just glancing at the stats every year I think I've only seen 1 waiver request granted. Too many people comfortable is the problem, no offense but if you've sat in any paygrade for that long you've had at least 1 command to recommend you for advancement. If you can't screen for whatever by that point well...

Kind of like the same 5 people that are at the bottom of the service wide every year. After a certain point is it helping or hurting the service? Tired of seeing MK3 Know nothing get paid more than my hard charging FN simply because A schools are closed.

True that! It would hurt a hard charger stuck in a billet not relavent to their job though like a training center, DSF, etc. Missing out on a XPO tour or something like that to gain the experience. Seen a lot of people stuck in the "priority 5 rut" and not getting out of it.

It's a good thing in the end, especially for the SN/FN coming in with degrees, they need to apply that education and move up the ranks!
