it will be a debate that never ends. however, i've had both manual and auto vehicles in my life. the only issue i've ever had with a manual with a blown out slave cylinder. from an auto, i had to had one transmission rebuilt, and currently the woman's car won't shift for shit in the winter. you have to put it in 1 and shift that auto tranmission manually until it warms up.

of course not all the vehincles are tacoma's, but at the end of the day, i am of the opionion that a manual is a better option, just from a long lasting without issue perspective. add in the lower purchase price and i don't see why anyone would choose an auto.

    carry on.

I had both I a reg cab taco and I like the auto better. Quirks with both but less issues with the auto specially in traffic much less annoying.

For my type of driving I like manuals when playing in deep snow where Ill most likely get stuck. It's a lot easier to rock if I have too. Any sports car have to be manual. All other driving I do is auto hands down.

That's due to the auto being 100# heavier. Not the strength.

I personaly prefer manual. I just don't like the way the auto shifts I find it annoying. As a toyota tech i drive both alot lot and the auto is the reason I didn't get the double cab long bed. As far as strength after attending toyotas manual transmission mission class where we dissambled the six speed box there is no doubt it is exstremely stong. Aside from the chirping throwout if one breaks this tranny it will most likely be the driver's error. Now to say one is stronger tha remains to be proven as there is no known major issues with either just personal preference. So buy either with confidence.

    1st gen manual,

    2nd gen auto.

    end of argument.

Not really. There are reasons the manual is better on say an I4 and the auto better on the 05+ V6 that aren't just opinion based. It is worth discussion. The problem doesn't lie in the evidence for each point, but in the point makers.

I'm talking reliability of trans. The manual on 4cyl 2nd gen is merely to compensate for lack of power.
